This Sunday, December 30th, is the 1st Sunday of Christmas. That’s right, it’s still Christmas! Today (12/28) is the fourth day of Christmas (but no calling birds, please – my phone bill is high enough as it is! [phone bill – ha!]). This Sunday we’re having a SINGLE SERVICE at 10 AM with carols-aplenty. And, being the fifth Sunday of the month, it would normally be Stewardship Sunday, but you’re in luck – no stewardship talks are scheduled (that I know of). But I’ll remind you that this is the last Sunday of the year, so if you want to be able to take more donations off of this year’s taxes (and help alleviate HTLC’s 2018 deficit) why not give while the giving’s good. I’ve heard that contributions have been up the past couple of months, so kudos to you all! There, that’s your stewardship talk. Now you can come to church (at 10 AM!), relax, listen to some nice readings, and sing your heart out!
Thank you to all who made Christmas Eve services so enjoyable. If you brought poinsettias, please remember to take them home after the service this Sunday. If you leave them in my incapable hands for another week, they will surely perish, and I don’t want to start the new year with the ghosts of poinsettias past (passed?) hanging around.
The Church Office will be closed on Tuesday, January 1st. This is one of those weeks where it would be a good idea to call first to make sure someone is there before coming over. I might decide to start New Year’s Eve celebrations with Samoa, Pastor Tim and I could go to Livermore Valley to try out new communion wines, or PT could stay home to work on his sermon earlier than Saturday (well, anything could happen!).
Choir and Instrumental Group rehearsals start up again this Wednesday, January 2nd. Praise Band rehearsals resume on the 9th. Make it your New Year’s resolution to sing or play more in the coming year by joining one or more of these groups (now that’s a resolution you can keep – not like that annual diet resolution!). Rehearsals are every Wednesday (almost). Instrumental Group at 6:15 pm, Choir at 7 pm, and Praise Band at 8 pm. All abilities are welcome (as evidenced by my less-than-perfect trumpet playing). We are a fun, welcoming group of people, so you’ll fit right in. I believe the only way to get better is to sing and play as often as possible (as evidenced by my believe-it-or-not-it’s-better-than-it-used-to-be trumpet playing).
Next Sunday, January 6th, is Epiphany. Everything goes back to normal schedule: 8:45 am and 11 am services, Sunday School at 10 am, and Adult Forum at 10:15 am. There will be a Worship Committee Meeting at 12:15 pm as well (and nachos – don’t forget nachos!). Tuesday Bible Study starts up again on the 8th at 10 am. Joining these or any other church groups makes a great back-up resolution to that diet!
Heads up: the Annual Congregational Meeting is scheduled for February 10th. The first person to give me their report wins a prize! (You’re not opposed to the re-gifting of Christmas gifts, are you?)
See you in church! (at 10 AM!)
