This Sunday, March 25th, is Palm Sunday and Lutheran Loose Change Sunday. At the 8:45 am service, we will meet on the patio and process in with palms. At both services we will hear from characters who were in Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday. The Seder Meal will be at 5 pm in Holland Hall with all the food, ritual, and fun that it entails. We will be using a new script this year (so new I haven’t even finished typing it up yet!), with the aim of making it less confusing and more meaningful for us. Here’s a link to a matzah recipe if you’d like to provide some homemade matzah for the meal: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/213682/matzah/
Tonight (Friday the 23rd) there will be a sign-making session at 7 pm in the Activity Room for the March For Our Lives on Saturday in Oakland. Details for the HTLC contingent participation were sent out yesterday by email, or you can call Kate at 510-552-3656, in case you threw away the email without reading it just because it came from me (shame on you – my emails are meant for posterity!).
For those not going to the march, we are having another Church Clean-up Day on Saturday (tomorrow) starting at 9 am. There will be food, cleaning supplies, and camaraderie. You supply the elbow grease. For those of you who signed up to read for Palm Sunday services, there will also be a rehearsal at the same time (now you wish you’d volunteered to read to get out of cleaning – well, you can go to the march as an excuse instead!).
Maundy Thursday worship service will be at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1301 Mowry Ave, Fremont, with the rest of the local ELCA congregations. There’s a soup potluck at 6 pm. Meet new people and taste new soups!
Good Friday worship service will be back here again at HTLC at 7 pm. Meditative Taizé music and a solemn atmosphere make for a very moving experience. Please enter and leave in silence.
And then, of course, there’s Easter Sunday. Worship is at the usual times: 8:45 am and 11 am. Breakfast will be served between the services (at about 10 am) with an Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30 for the kids (when do we get one for us immature adults?).
Tuesday Bible Study will be on Spring Break for the next two weeks and will resume on April 10th. Go to all of the Holy Week services instead as independent study (Maundy Thursday counts as a field trip!).
This Sunday is the last day to sign up at the Media Table for the Easter Garden and still have the honoree’s name appear in the bulletin. Please print legibly to help ensure correct spelling (apologies for last week’s misspelling “Moth-hair Teresa.” I meant to put Mother Tourista, patron saint of travelers). Just purchase the plant – any kind, size or color is welcome, and make sure it’s at the church by 10 am on Saturday, Mar 31st.
Thrivent Choice Dollars are expiring March 31st! All you Thrivent members please don’t let them expire and go to waste – designate them for Holy Trinity and let us waste them for you!
The Spaghetti Feed will be here April 14th (only two weeks after Easter!). Tickets are on sale between services. Start getting together those donations of gift cards and prize baskets for the raffle and silent auction. Pick up flyers from the Usher’s Table to post anywhere that will let you, and to hand out to all your friends, acquaintances, and perfect strangers!
Well, back to Seder Meal typing – will it be done in time, or will it end with “Next year in Jerusa…?”
See you in church!
