Today is Good Friday. Tonight’s worship service is at 7 pm here at Holy Trinity. Please enter and leave in silence as it a somber service. Why is it called “good” when Jesus died on that day? According to the Oxford English Dictionary (and most language experts agree), it comes from an antiquated use of the word good as meaning holy, as in “Holy Friday.” (Sorry, those of you who hold to the theory that it comes from a corruption of “God’s Friday.” That theory has been debunked on the internet as being “speculative etymology” – and as we all know the internet is never wrong!)
This Sunday, of course, is Easter Sunday! Our services are at 8:45 am and 11 am as usual, with an Easter Breakfast in-between at about 10 am in Holland Hall. The Easter Egg Hunt for the kids (and only the kids, alas!) starts at 10:30 am on the patio. The 11 am service will be extra celebratory as it will include the welcoming of the Roper family as new members, and the baptism of Jennifer and Christopher’s children: Alexander, Hailey, and Zoey!
Thanks to all who are contributing plants to the Easter Garden. Please remember to drop off your plants by 10 am Saturday. Be sure you put a craft stick (provided) with your name on it in the plant so that you’ll be able to recognize it when you pick it up after the 11 am service (it may be gussied up beyond recognition).
Last week the Sunday School Helping Hands kids created 80 bags for the homeless, filled with food and goodies to be delivered to Abode Services (the people for whom we used to make sandwiches). Thanks to all the Sunday School kids and parents for this wonderful outreach. You inspire us all!
The church office will be closed on Monday, April 2nd. It might be wise to call before coming over this week as Pastor Tim and I may be bar hopping keeping unusual hours.
Tuesday Bible Study is still on Spring Break this week and will resume on April 10th.
Game Night, though, will happen as usual on Friday, April 6th at 6:30 pm (probably because there’s food involved).
Thrivent Choice Dollars are expiring tomorrow, March 31st! All you Thrivent members please don’t let all that free money evaporate into nothingness when it could go to help HTLC!
Once Easter is over, it’s time to really concentrate on the Spaghetti Feed. It’s only two weeks away! Buy tickets, invite friends, (or make new friends and then invite them), distribute flyers anywhere you can (available on the media table), and donate gift cards and gift baskets (use your creativity!). In other words, let’s all do what we can to make this year’s Spaghetti Feed more fun and successful than ever! It’s on Saturday, April 14th from 4 pm to 8 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for kids age 3 to 11. There’ll be an abbondanza of food, a silent auction, raffles, a kid’s zone, and all sorts of shenanigans. A portion of the proceeds will go to support Reneal International Education Outreach (www.reneal.org).
Happy Easter! See you in church!
