This Sunday, May 6th, is the 6th Sunday of Easter and Nacho Name Tag Sunday. It’s also the last week of Sunday School. The kids will be singing at both services and painting rocks for the Peace Garden (you can paint one too!). The Sunday School Helping Hands Project of planting flowers at the Fremont Hills assisted Living home will begin at 1:30. If you’d like to come along, please talk to Marta Wicke or Kathy Miedema. We will also be honoring our Christian educators at both services – thank you for all your hard work and dedication (and patience!).
Tonight, Friday the 4th (Star Wars Day – May the 4th be with you), is Game Night! Will there be Star Wars-themed food? There will be if you bring it! Potluck starts at 6:30 pm followed by gabbing and games. Wear a Star Wars costume, if you like – we won’t laugh at you (much).
As part of a new effort at beautifying our church on Second Saturdays, There will be a Pillar Work Day on Saturday, May 12th, from 9 am to 11 am. We will be stripping and painting the church pillars (sounds like a hazing ritual, but no – we will not be stripping and painting John Williams, although he may be a “pillar of the church”). Materials will be provided. All you need to bring is yourself, work clothes, and elbow grease!
Next Sunday, on May 13th, our single-service schedule begins. We will be having a single 10 am worship service followed by a Mother’s Day Brunch (call Mom!) at 11:15 am to honor moms and other nurturers in our lives. Single 10 am Sunday services will continue through the summer until Rally Day, September 9th, when we return to our two-service schedule.
You can leave your sunglasses at home now, the Sanctuary has beautiful new blinds! Please do not raise them when the slats are closed, it is hard on the mechanism. Only raise them when the slats are in the open, horizontal position. Let’s keep these ones in good working condition for a long time!
Order your “God’s Work Our Hands” T-shirts at the Media Table. These bumble-bee yellow and black shirts are the perfect attire for the ELCA Day of Service in September, as well as other HTLC events, so we can look like a swarm of Lutherans! Only $8 each – such a deal!
Details of the upcoming Yard Sale were in last week’s email and bulletin insert, but here’s the gist: It’s on Saturday, June 2nd from 8 am to 2 pm. Small items can be dropped off in the Youth Room starting May 21st. All size items can be dropped off in Holland Hall starting May 26th. A volunteer schedule will be coming soon. Pester Erik Holland with any questions (trust me – he’s fun to pester).
A handful of tickets are still available for the HTLC Day at the Ballpark on August 4th. You don’t have to be an A’s fan to enjoy this outing – good food, friends to chat with, and fabulous fireworks are all part of the package (oh, yes – and there’s also a baseball game!). Tickets are $25.50 each (payment confirms your tickets). Please email Kathy Miedema at firstname.lastname@example.org.
See you in church!
