Hi, Everyone:

First, the sad news:  Richard Anderson, beloved member of this congregation, passed away suddenly on Wednesday.  Please keep his wife Joann and his family and friends in your prayers at this difficult time.  There are no details about a memorial service yet.

This Sunday, May 13th, is the 7th Sunday of Easter and the beginning of our single 10 am service summer schedule.  It’s also Scrip Sunday and Mother’s Day. We’ll be celebrating all of the nurturing women of our congregation with flowers during the single 10 am service (I’m mentioning the 10 am service again, so you can’t blame me if you show up early or late – 10 am!). Then, stay after the 10 am service for a delicious Mother’s Day Brunch at about 11:15 am, following the 10 am service that will take place at 10 am.

Tomorrow, Saturday the 12th from 9 am to 11 am, we will be having a Church Work Day to strip and paint the white pillars outside the church.  Please help out if you can.  Gloves, brushes, and materials will be provided, just wear your drip-friendly best.  This is the first of what we hope will be work days on the second Saturday of each month (Church Work Day sounds too much like work – may I humbly suggest Second Saturday Spruce-up?).

You are cordially invited to the Daytimers’ Luncheon on Tuesday, May 15th at 11:30 am after Bible Study.  If you haven’t been to one of these third-Tuesday happenings, there’s a lot of eating, laughing, and talking going on.  You should come just to make sure they’re not talking about you!

The annual HTLC Yard Sale is only three weeks away on Saturday, June 2nd from 8 am to 2 pm.  Small items can be dropped off in the Youth Room starting May 21st.  All size items can be dropped off in Holland Hall starting May 26th.  Questions? Ask Erik Holland.  A volunteer schedule will be coming soon (right, Erik?).

The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, Presiding Bishop of the ELCA, has issued a statement on racism (spoiler alert – she’s against it). Copies are available on the Media Table.

It’s graduation season, and we would like to honor all of our graduates in the bulletin insert.  If you or someone you know is graduating this year, please fill out one of the forms located on the Media Table and put it in the Parish Life Coordinator’s box by June 10th. This includes all of those graduating from High School, College, University, Advance Degree, and Certificate Programs. We do not want to leave anyone out!

Favorite Hymn Sundays are coming up in August.  This is your chance to sing that neglected hymn that you love. Just fill out a hymn request form available in the bulletins and on the Media Table, and place it in the offering tray or Carmen’s box.  Please limit yourself to one or two hymns or Praise Band songs, list any verses which you particularly like, and be sure to put your name on it – unsigned forms will not be used (we want to know who to blame give credit to).

Order your “God’s Work Our Hands” T-shirts at the Media Table.  These bright yellow shirts (they might as well say “Caution: Lutherans Working”) are de rigueur attire for the ELCA Day of Service in September, as well as other HTLC events.  Only $8 each!

A handful of tickets are still available for the HTLC Day at the Ballpark on August 4th. Good food, friends to chat with, and fabulous fireworks are all part of the package (oh, yes – and there’s also an A’s baseball game!). Tickets are $25.50 each (payment confirms your tickets).  Please email Kathy Miedema at skoop32@yahoo.com.

See you in church – at 10 am!

Keith
