Hi, Everyone:

This Sunday, October 7th, is the 20th Sunday after Pentecost, Nacho Name Tag Sunday, and Animal Blessing Sunday. Bring your stuffed toy animals to be blessed at Children’s Time during the both services and bring your real pets to the Live Animal Blessing at 12:15 pm on the patio.  All friendly pets are invited on a leash or in a carrier, or you can bring a picture of your pet to be blessed (of course, that means only the picture gets into heaven).

Oktoberfest is practically here!  The festivities start at 4 pm tomorrow evening (Saturday, October 6th) and continue until 8 pm.  No tickets this time, but we are relying on your generous free-will donations to defray costs plus make some money for hurricane relief and HTLC’s deficit.  But most of all, it’s a chance to get together, eat, and have fun!  There’ll be German-ish sausages like bratwurst, kielbasa, and hot dogs (I said “ish”), plus sauerkraut, cabbage with bacon, and popcorn.  Side dishes and desserts are being provided potluck-style (bring ‘em if you got ‘em – even if you didn’t sign up!), and the kids will be providing pretzels and root beer floats for an extra donation.  We will have the usual suspects of iced tea and lemonade, but there also will be beer and wine available for an extra donation.  Entertainment will be in the form of crafts, oompah band, and karaoke (an old German term meaning “bring your earplugs”).  Any help setting up and cleaning up will be greatly appreciated!

In honor of October’s designation as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Social Concern of the Month is the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation in Fremont and Pleasanton, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year,. While HERS is happy to accept donations, and makes it easy to give and learn more about the program online at hersbreastcancerfoundation.org, please check their Events calendar to keep abreast (Ha!) of other ways you can help. All through October, local restaurants are holding fundraisers for HERS. Go to one of the participating restaurants, and a portion of your bill will be donated to HERS.

On November 4th at 12:15 pm after the second service, there will be a Thrivent Event about InFaith Community Foundation.  Come and learn how people are expressing their generosity, creating legacies and supporting the charities and causes they care the most about (like Holy Trinity!). Through InFaith Community Foundation, thousands of individuals and families are expressing the generosity that lies within their hearts and leaving legacies to charities they love through their own Charitable Fund.  Lunch will be provided. Please sign up at the Media Table by November 1st.

Our annual Trunk-or-Treat will be on Oct 31st from 6 to 8 pm. Bring your tricked-out car and treats to the HTLC parking lot so neighborhood kids (and our own) can go to each decorated car collecting treats. It’s a free, fun, safe way to trick-or-treat. There will also be a Holland Hall Haunted House and food. Sign–ups to bring vehicles are on the Media Table.  It’s a great opportunity for outreach (with a skeleton hand)!

See you in church!  Auf wiedersehen!

Keith
