Hi, Everyone:

This Sunday, October 28th, is the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, Lutheran Loose Change Sunday, and (drumroll, please) … Reformation Sunday! Be sure to wear red this Sunday to celebrate that whistleblowing monk Martin Luther protesting the selling of indulgences (get-out-of-purgatory-free passes) by the Catholic Church in 1517.  It’s also the last Sunday to drop off items for Operation Christmas Child.  The kids will be packing up shoeboxes of Christmas gifts in November for needy children around the world.  Suggestions for what they can and cannot use can be found here:  https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/what-goes-in-my-shoebox-suggestions/.  Please place items in the box in the Narthex, and thank you for your participation.

More great news:  coming on the (tiny little) heels of the Thormoto birth, Amanda & Charles Bartlett have had their baby!  Judith Faye Bartlett was born at 7:59 pm on Monday, October 22.  She is 5 lbs., 12 oz., 19 inches long, and, of course, cute as a button.  Congratulations!  Now, what are the rest of you members doing to help grow the church?

Tonight, Friday October 26th, is Family Movie Night!  Join us in the Activity Room for food, popcorn, and a fun film (probably Halloweenish in nature).  Bring your famous Ghoulash!

Trunk-or-Treat is only 5 days away on Wednesday, October 31st from 6 pm to 8 pm.  Come early so you can get your vehicle all gussied-up before the hungry hordes arrive (sign-ups are on the Media Table).  There will be hot dogs, nachos, and popcorn available, and be sure to bring plenty of treats to hand out (and snack on yourself).  Or just show up, bring the costumed kids, and have fun!

Next Sunday, November 4th, is All Saints Sunday.  The 28th will be the last Sunday to sign up the names and submit the photos of those who have been saints to you in your life (and no, they don’t get a reduced purgatory sentence if you sign them up).  Photos can be emailed to Carmen at carmenjblair@gmail.com, or put in Pastor Tim’s box for scanning.

Also Sunday the 4th is when the free Thrivent Event about estate planning & endowments is happening after second service (12:15 pm).  Sign up by November 1st at the Media Table.  Lunch will be served (free event + lunch = free lunch!).

Yet another thing about Sunday the 4th is that Kathleen is planning to hand out Christmas Play scripts at Sunday School.  If you can’t be there, she can email you a copy if you contact her at emeraldrose1994@yahoo.com.  Be sure to let her know your plans for participation and if your child would like a speaking or non-speaking role and which one, so Kathleen can do some planning (it’s a bit unconventional to have four Marys, so she may have to have readings for some parts).  The play will be on December 16th with rehearsals the Saturdays before as well as during Sunday School.

One more thing about Sunday the 4th is that the Angel Tree will be going up!  As usual, it will be the Cause of the Month for November.  More details will be coming next week (in actual November).  Please still consider donating this Sunday to October’s cause, the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation.

See you in church! (wear red!)

Keith
