This Sunday, April 9th, is Palm Sunday. Hosanna! We’ll be performing the dramatic and moving “Cry of the Whole Congregation” service, a favorite of many. It’s also Scrip Sunday – the more you order and use, the more HTLC benefits! The annual Seder Meal will take place at 5 pm. It’s not always strictly traditional, but it’s always fun and tasty. (I hear the menu this year will turn your “oy vey” into “olé!”) Suggested donation: $15 for people 12 and up, $10 for people 5–11, and under 5, free. Make matzoh if you can!
But before all that stuff happens…
Tonight (Fri, April 07) is Game Night – also always fun and tasty. Come at 6:30 to the Activity Room for a rollicking good time. Tomorrow (Sat, April 08) is Church Clean-Up Day. The festivities start at 9 am. The more people who come and help, the more it feels like a party rather than work (which really may be the case if it’s too rainy). Let’s make our campus so appealing that the people who only come for Easter will want to come back every Sunday!
Then there’s Holy Week…
Tuesday Bible Study is cancelled Holy Week and Easter week and will resume on April 25th. Daytimers’ Luncheon will also move to the 25th.
We will NOT be having Maundy Thursday Service at Holy Trinity this year! Instead, we will be joining with other Local Lutheran churches at Christ the King Lutheran Church for a joint Soup Potluck and Maundy Thursday Service. Times are 5:45 pm for the potluck, and 7 pm for the service. If you plan to come, please sign up at the Media Table so Christ the King has some idea of how many to plan for. You can also sign up to bring soup or bread if you wish.
The next day we WILL be having Good Friday Service at HTLC at 7 pm. It will be a Tenebrae service (Latin for shadows) which is appropriately somber for this solemn observance. Plenty of special music (somber, of course), with our own choir being augmented by members of Christ the King’s choir! The tone of this service will help make you feel all the more joyful on…
Easter Sunday! We will be having our Easter Breakfast between the services (which occur at the normal 8:45 am and 11 am times), and an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids at 10:30 am. Once again this year we will have our Easter Garden filling our narthex and sanctuary with riotous color. Sign up at the Media Table to bring a plant in honor or in memory of someone (print legibly please). Just purchase the plant – any size or color is welcome (two similar plants are nice for symmetry), and make sure they’re at the church by 10 am on Saturday, April 15th.
After Easter (yes, there is life after Easter) there are several other special events coming up…
There will be an American Heart Association CPR/AED Class on Saturday, April 22nd from 10 am to 4 pm. Learn how to save lives by performing CPR on babies, children and adults, as well as how to use AED (defibrillator) equipment and first aid supplies. You will receive a certification wallet card good for two years. Sign up at the Media Table. Cost is $80 per person. (A light lunch will be served)
There is a free Thrivent Financial Planning Event titled “Your Journey: Retirement, Taxes and Generosity” on Sunday, April 23rd at 12:30 pm. More information about this workshop is on the Media Table. Contact Teresa Wible at 925-400-4006 x1 or firstname.lastname@example.org for reservations. (Again, a light lunch will be served)
Also, don’t forget to sign up for one of the RIC Cottage Meetings (on the clipboard-filled, overcrowded Media Table) on April 30th, June 4th or June 25th. Find out ways to be more welcoming to the LGBTQ community and about the next steps to developing a Welcoming Statement to be voted on later by the congregation. Pastor Tim will also be giving a biblical survey on this topic at these meetings. Come and learn! (And, of course, a light lunch will be served)
See you in church!
