This Sunday, February 5th, is the 5th Sunday after Epiphany, Nacho Name Tag Sunday and, of course, that high holy day: Super Bowl Sunday! Our youth will be collecting money and food for the hungry in our community as part of the nation-wide Souper Bowl of Caring. Sunday School, Parenting Forum, and Adult Forum are cancelled in favor of the Soup Potluck which will be in Holland Hall between the two worship services, so bring your appetites! There is also a Worship Committee Meeting after the second service, but I’ve been assured by Carmen that it will end long before kick-off.
Tonight, February 3rd, is Game Night! (board games, not football) Join us at 6:30 pm in the Activity Room for comestibles, conversation, and conviviality (alliteration still rules!). Oh, and confections: I made lemon bars.
R&R Circle will be meeting this Wednesday, the 8th at 10am with lunch to follow. (I’m hoping for leftovers to follow the lunch – I’m right there in the office in case they need disposing of.)
All sorts of stuff is available on the Media Table this week: sign-ups for the Day at the Ballpark tickets (for an A’s game in July – see last week’s news), your individual 2016 Giving Statements (in the wicker basket), HTLC’s 2016 Financial Summary (a lavender half-sheet), the February Calendar (in Epiphany-star yellow), and the ELCA Bishop’s Message about recent immigration restrictions (in serious-document black and white – you can also read it here: http://www.elca.org/News-and-Events/7873 ).
Thanks to the after-Christmas lull, I have brought forth new Member Directories, wrapped them in ivory clothes, and laid them on the Usher’s Table, for there was no room for them on the Media Table. Receive them, for they have updated information.
RIC Update: The RIC (Reconciling in Christ) Team is meeting with Church Officers and Council Members to gather ideas about the next steps in the RIC process. Soon you’ll have the opportunity to participate in RIC, too, with educational and discussion opportunities coming soon! As a reminder, the RIC process is designed to create a statement that explicitly welcomes LGBTQ people at Holy Trinity. This Welcoming Statement will be voted on by the entire congregation to determine whether Holy Trinity will become officially RIC.
See you in church!
