This Sunday, February 26th, is Transfiguration of Our Lord Sunday (the one where He goes all bright and shiny on the mountaintop). It’s also Lutheran Loose Change Sunday. There is an RIC Meeting after the second service at 12:15pm.
Tonight, Friday the 24th, is Movie Night. Come around 6:30pm to the Activity Room for fantastic food, fabulous friends, and a fun flick. Game Night is next Friday.
This coming Wednesday, March 1st, is Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten Season. We will have an Ash Wednesday service at 7pm which will include the imposition of the ashes (those ashes are pretty imposing if you forget to wash them off). There will be Midweek Lenten Services at 6:30pm on the other Wednesdays during Lent leading up to Holy Week. These are short, half-hour meditative services that are a nice way to add something meaningful for Lent instead of giving up something like chocolate. You can also stay after the service and join choir as they rehearse – another opportunity to add something for Lent! (but don’t give it up afterwards)
The Reformation 500 Bookstore is back again. If you remember, there was a mix-up with expiration dates last time. This time, we will only have it up in the Narthex this Sunday and next Sunday, then immediately order before they change their minds. The same deal applies: 50% off the books and free shipping. Those of you who already ordered in the fall will have their orders re-submitted. Those who missed out in the fall, take a look and order what you want. There are some very interesting books at very reasonable prices. This is the 500th anniversary year of the Reformation; learn about the heritage of your church!
Spaghetti Feed! It’s less than a month away: March 18 from 4pm to 8pm. So snatch up those tickets, invite your friends, and get those silent auction items, raffle donations and prize baskets together! There are copies of the flyers in the narthex. Give them to friends, post them anywhere that will let you, and “like” or “share” the event on our Facebook page!
The next couple of announcements involve Thrivent. For those who don’t know, Thrivent used to be called Lutheran Brotherhood (but I suppose that wasn’t inclusive enough). They provide insurance and financial planning, but also do nice things like matching funds for charity drives (like Adopt an Angel), holding free document shredding events, and giving us free comfy t-shirts.
2016 Choice Dollars are expiring. Through the Thrivent Choice® program, eligible members have the power to recommend where Thrivent distributes part of its charitable grant funds annually. Choice Dollars can be directed to thousands of enrolled nonprofit organizations and congregations, including Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Eligible Thrivent Financial members have until March 31, 2017, to direct any remaining 2016 Choice Dollars.
The time of the Thrivent Event on Sunday, April 23rd has changed from 12:15pm to 12:30pm. I know this 15 minute change will make all the difference in the world. Join Ray and Dave Carlisle, Thrivent Associates, in Holland Hall as they present “Your Journey: Retirement, Taxes and Generosity.” A light lunch will be served. Please call Teresa Wible at 925-400-4006 x1 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a place for yourself and a guest. You can also register at Thrivent.com/findaworkshop.
Cheryl Cox-Hall is still looking for a room to rent as soon as possible. If you or someone you know has a room available, please let her know at (408) 206-4843 or email@example.com
See you in church!
