This Week at Holy Trinity, June 02, 2017

Hi, Everyone:

This Sunday, June 4th, is the Day of Pentecost (wear red!) and Nacho Name Tag Sunday (is my heart burning with the Spirit, or is that the nachos?).  We’ll have a procession with the crucifer, paschal candle and Karen Narveson dancing like fire.  And, of course, there will be the flaming bowl of death Spirit (there will be fire extinguishers handy!).  Also this Sunday is the second RIC Cottage Meeting after the service.  Learn about what it takes to be a welcoming congregation to the LGBTQ community, why a welcome statement is needed, and the next steps in the Reconciling in Christ process. A light lunch will be served, and child care will be provided. Come even if you didn’t sign up!

The Yard Sale is tomorrow!  (Yikes!)  Final pricing is tonight (Friday, June 2nd).  There’s still lots to sort through and price, so anyone who can come by and help would be greatly appreciated.  This is also your last chance to purchase the good stuff before the general public can!  Doors should be open for volunteers by 6:30pm.  Additionally, all members of HTLC are invited to help during the Church Yard Sale on Saturday, June 3rd.  Help can mean anything you want!  It can be working the checkout table, refolding clothes that have become a mess, helping satisfied customers carry treasures to their cars, enjoying a cup of coffee with fellow HTLC members, playing on (I mean demonstrating) the exercise equipment, or negotiating with potential customers to help close that deal!  And PLEASE don’t bring more stuff the morning of the sale, it just creates more hassle.  You’ve procrastinated this long, you can procrastinate another year!

Game Night (and potluck) is also scheduled for tonight at 6:30 pm in the Activity Room (although we may end up playing “The Price Is Right” over in Holland Hall if needed).  Regardless, we will have fun, chat, and eat food, so there really is no down side!

Next week on Holy Trinity Sunday is our annual Choir Sermon in Song.  We will be honoring all of our musicians with treats after the service.  It’s especially appropriate this year as it is the 10th anniversary of the Praise Band and 20th anniversary of the instrumental group.  (It’s also the 56th anniversary of the Choir, 26th for me as Choir Director, and Leilani’s 48th as Organist, for those who are counting).

The Sunday after that (the 18th) everything happens at once – Father’s Day, Confirmation, New Members, Baptisms, and Barbecue Dedication.  Of course all of these special occasions deserve a Potluck!  Meat, bread, and dessert are already taken care of.  The rest is up to you!  There’s a sign-up sheet on the Media Table if you would like to contribute your most famous salad or side dish (but not the one with tuna and orange jell-o – you know the one I mean).

Remember the plans for an HTLC Day at the Ballpark on July 29th?  Well, there are still 4 tickets left for the matchup between the A’s and the Twins that Saturday!  There’s also a Witches & Wizards fireworks show afterward (free with your game ticket) and we will tailgate before. Game time is 6:05 pm, everything else is to be determined. Tickets are first-come, first-served. Each ticket is $25 + a $2 handling fee.  Email Kathy Miedema at if you are interested.

For those who have not heard, there will be a Memorial Service for June Bello on July 22nd at 2 pm here at HTLC.  She planned everything from the music to the menu long in advance, so it should be quite an extravaganza, just like her fabulous hats!  If you have pictures of June you would like to share, please place them in Pastor Tim’s box with your name on them.

Vacation Bible School (a.k.a. VBS) is fast approaching.  It will take place July 10-14.  The theme is “Mighty Fortress” in honor of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.  If you would like to help, just talk to Terri MacFarlane.  I’m sure she can use all the help she can get!  (and I don’t mean just mentally!)

Oh, and in case you forgot:  Yard Sale, YARD SALE, YARD SALE!

See you in church!
