This Week at Holy Trinity, November 24, 2017

Hi, Everyone.  Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.  Sorry to wake you from your food coma.  Like your dinner tonight, most of these items are warmed-up leftovers from last week’s email.  But pay attention anyway, since there are a few subtle differences (much like the missing marshmallows on your sweet potatoes).

This Sunday, November 26th, is Christ the King Sunday – one of the church’s festival Sundays and the last Sunday of the church year.  Usually, Christ the King Sunday gets lumped in with Thanksgiving Sunday, but this year, since it follows Thanksgiving, it gets a Sunday all to itself!  We’ll even have the pomp of a procession with the Paschal Candle and Crucifer!  (Pastor Tim will probably think it’s because we’re welcoming him back after two weeks’ absence – we’ll just let him keep thinking that)  It’s also Luther Loose Change Sunday.  We are back to our two-service schedule of 8:45 and 11, but there will be no Sunday School due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Here is the revised version of the Sunday School and Christmas Pageant Rehearsal Schedule:

11/26:             No Sunday School

12/02 (Sat):    Pageant practice 3 – 5 pm

12/02 (Sat):    Family Caroling Night 5:30pm

12/03:             Sunday School 10am

12/10:             Sunday School  10am

12/16 (Sat):    Pageant practice 9 – 11 am

12/17:             Pageant 10am

(no Sunday school)

12/24:             No Sunday School

12/31:             No Sunday School

Music will be practiced during Sunday School time on Dec 3 & 10.  If parents could help with costuming on Dec 16, and with snack stuff on Dec 2 & 16 that would be great!

Family Caroling Night will be on Saturday, December 2nd.  To kick off Advent, we will be caroling at local assisted living homes. No experience necessary. Meet at the church at 5:30 pm and we will carpool together. After caroling we will meet back at church for snacks and tree decorating. Contact Marta Wicke for any questions (; 510-516-2782).  While the others are out caroling, a group of us needs to do the Hanging of the Greens in the sanctuary. If you would like to come at 6 pm to help out, please sign up at the Media Table.

The annual Angel Tea will be on  December 10th at 1 pm. Stuff yourself silly with delicious dainty treats while helping provide Christmas gifts for foster children. The cost is $35 per person and all proceeds go to purchase the gifts. Space is limited, so sign up at the Media Table NOW, before all the spots are gone. If you have any questions, please contact Cheryl Kuhlmann at (510) 502-0890.  Don’t forget, if you took a tag from the Giving Tree in the narthex for Adopt an Angel, the gifts need to be under the tree (unwrapped) by December 3rd!

Relay for Life of Newark will be having a Holiday Boutique here in Holland Hall on Saturday, Dec 2 from 11 am to 3 pm. A portion of the proceeds will be going to the American Cancer Society. Do some holiday shopping while supporting a good cause!

See you in church!
