This Sunday, September 17th is the 15th Sunday after Pentecost, and Fill the Food Barrel Sunday. There will be an Oktoberfest Meeting at 12:15 pm after 2nd service. It’s coming up fast (Oct. 7th), so start getting those raffle baskets and prizes together! There will also be Oktoberfest flyers and posters available Sunday. Post them wherever you can and hand them out to friends. Spread the word: it’s not just fun – it’s a fundraiser for both HTLC and hurricane relief.
Everyone is invited to the monthly Daytimers’ Luncheon on Tuesday, September 19th at 11:30 am following the usual Bible Study at 10 am. The food and company are always excellent!
This Friday is the fourth Friday of the month, which means it’s time for Family Movie Night! I forgot to mention it in the bulletin insert this Sunday (sorry about that, Randy, but as Jesus says this Sunday, you have to forgive me at least 77 times [or 490 times depending upon the translation]). Anyway, come at 6:30 pm in the Activity Room for food and a fun film.
There are a couple of new handouts on the Media Table. Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton has issued a response to the ending of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (D.A.C.A.). Her statement is contained in a letter from our synod and is available on the Media Table, along with copies of the 1998 ELCA Social Message “Immigration” which she references in her statement. There are also the new fall editions of the devotional booklets “The Word in Season” and “Christ in Our Home.” (Have you found Jesus? He’s in your home! – Try behind the couch.)
Don’t forget, Animal Blessing Sunday is coming up in two weeks on October 1st. Bring your stuffed toy animals to the services to have them blessed, and bring your live animals after 2nd service (at about 12:15 pm) for a blessing on the patio. We are blessed to have animals in our lives, so now it’s time for us to return the favor!
See you in church!
