This Sunday, October 1st, is the 17th Sunday after Pentecost, Nacho Name Tag Sunday, and Animal Blessing Sunday. Bring your stuffed toy animals (or pictures of pets, past or present) to the worship services to have them blessed during Children’s Time, and bring your live pets at 12:15 for a blessing on the patio. (Don’t bring your dead pets, that’s just creepy – save them for Trunk-or-Treat!)
Oktoberfest will be on October 7th (that’s next Saturday!) from 4 pm to 8 pm. There are plenty of ways to help, from setting up or cleaning up to donating prize baskets. See the sign-up sheets on the Media Table. Another way to help is to distribute flyers (available on the Usher’s Table) and to tell everyone you know. Be sure to mention it’s a fundraiser for both HTLC and hurricane relief. There’ll be all-you-can-eat German-style food & desserts, beer and wine (additional purchase), and fun for all including raffle prizes, henna tattoos, face painting, karaoke, and activities for the kids. The best way to help out is to come and have a great time! Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $10 for kids 10 and under, and $45 for a family of four. I’ll try to do my part by holding off on the Oktoberfest puns. (Accordion to some, they’re the wurst!)
We’re still planning to have Game Night next Friday, Oct. 6th, even though it’s on Oktoberfest Eve. (you can never have too much food or fun!) Bring along your favorite food and games. Losers have to donate their games to a Raffle Basket for the next day (just kidding!).
There’s a Tongan Luau at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church (35660 Cedar Blvd in Newark, www.hrlc-newark.org), on Saturday, Sept 30th (tomorrow) from 12 pm to 3 pm. Go and meet your fellow Lutherans! It might be more authentic than our Lu-Wow, but I’ll bet it’s not as kitschy! (I expect a full compare-and-contrast report on my desk by Monday.)
See you in church!
