This Week at HTLC, October 21, 2016

Hi, everyone,

This Sunday is October 23rd, 23rd Sunday after Pentecost and Luther Loose Change Sunday.  It is also Children’s Sabbath, so you’ll see our youngsters featured prominently in the service as helpers and singers.

Oktoberfest is tomorrow! (Saturday, October 22 from 4pm-8pm) I saw no assembled baskets in the Activity Room for the raffle, so please put your creativity (and shopping abilities) to work so we can all enjoy a good raffle!  We could also use help with decorations (steins for table decorations would be great!).  There will be delicious all-you-can-eat food, and beer and wine to purchase.  I even heard a rumor that our own instrumental group will play a couple of polkas and that there will be karaoke (but don’t let that dissuade you). Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for age 12 and under, $45 for a family of four, and $10 for additional family members and friends.  So invite all your friends and come on down for a great time.  (Lederhosen optional – but flaunt ‘em if you got ‘em!)

Next Friday, October 28th is the fourth Friday of the month, which means it’s time for Family Movie Night!  Join us at 6:30 PM in the Activity Room for food, friends, and a fun film.

Reformation Sunday is next week (Oct 30th).  Have you done your homework yet?  We’d like to use your thoughts and images on the question “What is the church called to do in the world today?” for a media presentation. The forms are available in the bulletins and on the Media Table.  The forms can be put in Carmen’s box, and digital photos can be emailed to Carmen at  Printed photos can be put in Pastor Tim’s box for scanning.  (Late work might be accepted, but for partial credit and probably with a scowl.)

We will also have a media presentation on All Saints Sunday, November 6th.  You can write down the names of those who have been saints to you on the sheet on the Media Table in the Narthex.  Please print legibly so we don’t end up recognizing Mother Tourista.  Submissions of photos of your saints will be handled in the same manner as above.

Trunk or Treat, our fun and safe trick-or-treat event will be on Oct 31st (Halloween) from 6pm to 8pm.  Impress the kids from the neighborhood and church with your creatively decorated vehicle.  Or just come by to have a hayride and take in the goofiness!  Sign-ups to participate are on the media table.

The Reformation 500 Bookstore is still in the narthex.  Augsburg Fortress is offering these books at up to 50% off and with free shipping. There’s even a graphic novel and a book titled “The Wit of Martin Luther” (it’s a small book).  Get your orders in soon, it won’t be here forever (this is most certainly true).

See you in church!
