HTLC News Email, April 20, 2018

Hi, Everyone:

This Sunday, April 22nd, is the 4th Sunday of Easter and Lutheran Loose Change Sunday.  The Gospel reading will be the one about Jesus being the Good Shepherd, so be prepared to sing every hymn that’s ever been written with the word “shepherd” in it.  There will be a Worship Committee Meeting after the second service at about 12:15 pm if you want to complain about it.

A big thank you to all who helped make the Spaghetti Feed such a rousing success (and there were way too many people to mention individually).  Was it my imagination, or was this the best one ever?! (or maybe I just had more wine than usual this year)

The HTLC Sunday School Helping Hands kids are back in action! Coming off the success of Palm Sunday, when they packed 80 bags of supplies for the homeless (kudos!), the Helping Hands kids will be planting flowers for memory care residents at Fremont Hills Assisted Living home on Mission Boulevard on Sunday, May 6, at 1:30 p.m.  If you’d like to come along, please talk to Marta Wicke or Kathy Miedema.

This year’s HTLC Yard Sale is coming up on June 2nd. Due to increased usage of Holland Hall by outside organizations, the drop-off schedule has been updated this year.  Starting Monday May 21st, smaller items (clothes, games, kitchenware, etc.) can be dropped off in the Youth Room at the end of Holland Hall. Then on Saturday, May 26th, all items (large or small) can be dropped off at Holland Hall. This day will also be the first day of set-up, sorting, pricing, etc. in Holland Hall for the Yard Sale the following week.  A more detailed volunteer schedule for Tuesday, May 29th – Fri, June 1st will be made available soon.  Please direct any questions, concerns, praises, bribes, instructions, and snacks to Erik Holland (or leave the snacks on my desk – I’ll make sure he gets them).

All you gardening types, don’t forget to contact Kate (510-552-3656 text or voice, email: if you are interested in being on a Landscaping Committee.  We need your talent and passion to help beautify and maintain our campus!

About half of the seats we’ve reserved are still available for the HTLC Day at the Ballpark on August 4th.  You don’t have to be an A’s fan to enjoy this outing – good food, friends to chat with, and fabulous fireworks are all part of the package (oh, yes – and there’s also a baseball game!).  Sign up for tickets now at the Media Table.  Tickets are $25.50 each (Payment, due in June, will confirm your tickets.).  Any questions, please ask Kathy Miedema (

See you in church!
