This Sunday, August 19th, is the 19th Sunday after Pentecost and Fill the Food Barrel Sunday (more about this later). Of course, the big HULA-baloo is about Pastor Tim’s 30th Ordainiversary and our annual Lu-Wow! following the worship service. Before you PU-PU the whole idea, know that there will be Hawaiian music, hula dancing, and all sorts of luau-inspired food (POI oh POI!). Maybe instead of having a roast pig, we’ll “roast” Pastor Tim! Be sure to dress in your most obnoxious, colorful Hawaiian shirt (if you don’t have one today, start shopping to-MAUI) and be ready for a Hono-LU-LU of an event! (The preceding puns have been recycled from previous announcements in order to reduce our comedic footprint.)
Now, about Fill the Food Barrel Sunday: you will no doubt remember Carmen’s Children’s Time last week when she challenged the kids (and us) to bring food for our Food Barrel this Sunday. Items collected in the Food Barrel go to help stock LOV Newark’s food Pantry. Suggested items are:
- Canned tuna or chicken
- Peanut butter
- Meals in a can (such as soup, stew, and chili)
- Brown rice
- Whole grain pasta
- Whole grain cereals
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruit (packed in juice or water)
- Healthy snacks (granola bars, nuts, dried fruit)
Low-sodium and low-sugar options are best. Pop-top lids – good, glass containers – bad. Every third Sunday of the month is Food Barrel Sunday, but don’t let that stop you from bringing non-perishables at any time!
Just a reminder: schedule your photo session for our new Photo Directory if you haven’t already. Visit the website: https://booknow-lifetouch.appointment-plus.com/yeexjb4x/. or call Cheryl Kuhlmann at 510-502-0890.
Another reminder: see Cheryl Hall for your “God’s Work, Our Hands” and “Helping Hands” t-shirts.
Yet another reminder: Rally Day is September 9th, when Sunday School and the two-service schedule start again – panic ensues soon.
See you in church!
