This Sunday, January 20th, is the 3rd Sunday of Epiphany and Fill the Food Barrel Sunday. This is the Sunday that Jesus is revealed by his first (and my favorite) miracle – changing water into wine!
The Daytimers’ Luncheon, which normally takes place on the third Tuesday of the month has been moved this month to this coming Tuesday, January 22nd at 11:30 am in the Activity Room. As always, all are welcome to partake of this potluck feast. This month the theme is soups and stews to warm you up during these cold months. Come to Bible Study at 10 am to warm your soul as well!
If all goes well, The Giving Tree and the forms for the Stewardship 2019 drive will be up and ready to go this Sunday. The Giving Tree (constructed by Meg Ehmann) will be in the narthex. It starts out bare, but with each form that’s filled out and returned, another leaf goes on the tree. The forms ask you to list the ways you give, or are willing to give, of your time, talents and treasures; not only to HTLC, but to the community at large. Each member of your family can fill out individual forms. Do you volunteer at a local charity? That’s a leaf! Does your child help with the Helping Hands projects? That’s a leaf! Does your pet bring comfort at local nursing homes? That’s a leaf! Let’s return as many of these forms as we can to Eric Holland, his mailbox near the office, or the offering tray, and watch the Giving Tree come to life in the coming weeks!
Next week, the last Sunday of January, is RIC Sunday when many churches celebrate becoming an RIC congregation. We will be celebrating our dedication to be welcoming to all people (that’s a leaf!), including the LGBTQIA community. We’ll read our Welcome Statement and have a special liturgy during the service. And colorful treats afterwards, of course!
The Souper Bowl of Caring takes place on Sunday, February 3rd. This is a nation-wide youth event to collect money and food for local charities during the weekend of the Super Bowl. You are encouraged to bring money, cans of soup, or other non-perishables (that’s a leaf!), and the youth will collect it all in their big soup pots after each service. We will also have our usual Soup Potluck between services to celebrate. Sign-ups to bring soup are on the Media Table (that’s a leaf!).
Got restless little ones with you in church? We have colorful Busy Bags in the narthex containing activities to keep them occupied. Cheryl Hall has just refreshed the contents. She plans to keep updating them (that’s a leaf!) so that they are season-appropriate.
A new feature of this weekly email will be a listing of those who have volunteered to be worship helpers (that’s a leaf!) at the coming Sunday’s services. It will be at the end of the email with the upcoming events and weekly schedule. You can also see where we are needing people if you want to step up and help (that’s a leaf!). Just let Carmen Blair know so she doesn’t have to worry about finding someone at the last minute (that’s a re-leaf!).
Don’t forget that the Annual Congregational Meeting is coming up on February 10th following a single service at 10 am.
See you in church!
