Hi, Everyone, I’m back! (My Mom says “Hi.”):

This Sunday, July 15th, is the 8th Sunday after Pentecost, Fill the Food Barrel Sunday, and VBS Sunday. During the service, you’ll get to hear about all of the exciting things the kids have been up to, and they’ll regale you with some of the songs they learned at our “Shipwrecked” Vacation Bible School. Then, celebrate after the service with a Rescue Barbecue (and belated 4th of July celebration).  There’ll be all sort of food and fun including face painting, henna tattoos, and games.  We will also be having a water slide, so don’t forget to bring a towel and your swimsuit (the one that fits well enough not to slide off – we are not re-creating the fall from Eden!).  Thanks to everyone who has made VBS such a success!

Since I’ve been gone, I haven’t had a chance to tell you about the Cause of the Month (or Social Concern of the Month, or Social Cause for Concern of the Month – choose your nomenclature).  This month it’s the ELCA Fund for Leaders Federal Chaplaincy Ministries Scholarship which aims to support seminary students who minister to members of the armed forces. This scholarship goes to students who are attending an ELCA seminary full-time and are preparing for ministry as a military, Veterans Administration, or federal prison chaplain. These scholarships are awarded through ELCA Federal Chaplaincy Ministries. More information is available here:

Believe it or not, it’s just a little over a month until Lu-Wow!  On August 19th we are planning on having our annual luau-inspired feast following the service.  It’s always a great time, so start searching your wardrobe now for your most obnoxious Hawaiian print shirts!  More info to come (and probably bad jokes on my part).

See you in church!
