This Sunday, May 5th, is the 3rd Sunday of Easter and Nacho Name Tag Sunday – on Cinco de Mayo! How often does that happen? (I have no idea – it probably involves math and leap years – the nerds can figure that one out). There is also a Council Meeting this Sunday after second service at about 12:15 pm. Oh, and Pastor Tim is doing both the Sermon and Children’s Time this Sunday! (How often does that happen – and is it more frequent than Cinco de Mayo Sundays?)
Next Sunday, May 12th, is Mother’s Day, and we will be having a Mother’s Day Brunch between services at about 10 am honoring all mothers and motherly-types. Whatever Hospitality has cooked up (so to speak) is bound to be better than those crowded restaurants.
The Sunday after that there will be a Helping Hands Field Trip. Join the Miedema family on Sunday, May 19th, and help build a climbing structure for the iguanas at Sloppy Seconds, Inc. Animal Sanctuary, 1:30 pm to 3 pm, 1840 Dahill Lane, Hayward, CA 94541. (The Iguanas and Sloppy Seconds – both great rock band names!) There are information sheets on the Media Table.
The Sunday after that (May 26 – Memorial Day Weekend) is when we change to our Single Service Summer Schedule. Sunday worship services will be at 10 am through Labor Day, and Adult Forum and Sunday School will be on hiatus. We will also be having a Farewell Luncheon for The Teagues at about 11:15 am after the single service. Bernie and Muriel Teague, charter members of Holy Trinity for 58 years, will be moving away soon. Please come and show your appreciation of their many years of service at this church.
Speaking of Memorial Day, Our May Cause of the Month is Operation: Care & Comfort. This organization allows caring Americans to donate their time, talent & treasures to honor those currently serving our country & those who have served. OCC provides support and comfort to “adopted” units of deployed U.S. military service members, serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other conflict regions. Working within our community and through donations received from all over our country, they assemble and ship care packages to adopted units every month until they return home. They currently support up to 200 units on a monthly basis.
It’s that time of year when we honor all of our graduates. If you or someone you know is graduating this year, please fill out one of the green forms located on the media table in the narthex and put it in the Parish Life Coordinator’s box by June 9. This includes all of those graduating from High School, College, University, Advance Degree, and Certificate Programs. We do not want to leave anyone out!
Stewardship Spotlight (the following to be said in your best game show host voice): If your names are Neal and Rene Bierbaum then come on down! You are the next Stewardship Spotlight!!! Neal and Rene enjoy supporting HTLC with attendance and participation in numerous HTLC activities while getting great satisfaction in supporting the youth Helping Hands projects. These two really shine on an international level though with the work of their organization Reneal International Education Outreach. Reneal goes into various countries and equips under-funded schools with updated and operational technology. We thank them for this work and for including HTLC in these successes. Who will win next week on “The Price Is Righteous?”
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, so let them know how much you value their hard work (forget the apple – try a bottle of wine or a massage gift certificate!).
See you in church!
