This Sunday, May 12th, is the 4th Sunday of Easter and Scrip Sunday. But most importantly, it’s Mother’s Day! So be sure to bring Mom or your most Momish person to our Mother’s Day Brunch between services at about 10 am. In addition, all women will be getting flowers during Children’s Time at both worship services. All you need now is a card and a gift – which you can get through our Scrip program (They’re gift cards, so they’re technically both cards and gifts – we’ve got you covered!). Sunday School and Adult Forum are cancelled in favor of eating.
Next Sunday, get the kids to the Sloppy Seconds, Inc. Animal Sanctuary, 1:30 pm to 3 pm, for a Helping Hands Field Trip. Join the Miedema family on Sunday, May 19th, and help build a climbing structure for the iguanas (whom the kids met recently during Sunday School). The sanctuary is at 1840 Dahill Lane, Hayward, CA 94541. Information sheets are on the Media Table.
Sunday May 26, which is on Memorial Day Weekend, is when we change to our Single Service Summer Schedule. Sunday worship services will be at 10 am through Labor Day, and Adult Forum and Sunday School will be on hiatus. We will be having a Farewell Potluck for the Teagues after the service. They didn’t want a big fuss, so keep the weeping and wailing to a minimum (hugs are acceptable). There’s a sign-up sheet for bringing food to the potluck on the Media Table (who will bring Muriel’s cheesy potato casserole from now on? – I miss them already!).
Got a graduate? If you or someone you know is graduating this year, please fill out one of the green forms located on the media table in the narthex and put it in the Parish Life Coordinator’s box by June 9. This includes all of those graduating from High School, College, University, Advance Degree, and Certificate Programs. We do not want to leave anyone out!
Stewardship Spotlight: The Stewardship Spotlight is going to be a group spotlight this week and highlight the gifts shared by the Miedema family! The brains and skill in this group is with the ladies while Dad does the labor (he listed “lots of heavy lifting” on Stewardship form). As a family they are everywhere as they have taken on creating the Helping Hands youth program, decorations and setup of special events, church work days, acolyte, council, 2nd service media, Christmas pageant, and write content for church communications and website. Finally, Dad also bartends for numerous special events and that is a gift we are all glad he shares! (Remember, these Stewardship blurbs are written by Erik [you lush!])
It’s not too early to be thinking about Vacation Bible School – especially since it is coming early this year: June 24 – 28, 6 pm to 8 pm. This year’s theme is “ROAR! Life is wild – God is good!” More info will be forthcoming. Just be ready for some wild animals the last week of June (I mean the VBS characters, not the kids. Although…)
See you in church!
