HTLC News Email, April 1, 2022
Hi, Everybody:
This Sunday, April 3, 2022, is the 5th Sunday in Lent and Nacho Name Tag Sunday. Monthly Zoom Coffee Chat is at 9:15 am, In-person and livestream Worship Service is at 10 am, In-person Sunday School is at 11 am, and there is a Council Meeting at 12 pm. Zoom Communion has been suspended indefinitely. At-home people are invited to join us for communion during the livestream.
Saturday, April 9, we will be having a Palm Saturday Church Workday to get the church and its environs all pretty for Palm Sunday and Easter. It starts at 9 am and snacks will be available. Bring your favorite cleaning supplies, work gloves, etc. We will have a sign-up sheet ready this Sunday. This is our first in-person Easter we’ve had in three years. Let’s make the place look spectacular!
Speaking of which, no one has signed up yet for the Easter Garden! You can sign up at the Media Table to bring a plant in honor or in memory of someone for the sanctuary display. You can also email and let me know if you plan to bring plants and who the honorees are. Just purchase the plants – any size, color or type is welcome (just like our church!), and make sure it’s at the church by 10 am on Saturday, April 16. You will be able to pick up your plants after the service on Easter.
Easter Breakfast sign-ups are also starting! It will be in person (we will also accommodate to go orders with advance notice). Please email the church office (plc@xti.xrd.mybluehost.me) with the number in your party or sign up on the physical sign-up sheet starting this Sunday. We ask that your reservation is received by Good Friday (April 15) so we can plan/shop accordingly. Breakfast will start at 11 am following the service. Weather permitting, we will offer outdoor seating. More details to follow.
Our final Tri-City ELCA Midweek Lenten Service will be on Wednesday, April 6, at 6:30 pm here at Holy Trinity. This week, Holy Redeemer is presenting “Mary Anoints Jesus’ Feet—Whether it’s perfume for Jesus’ feet or outreach programs, giving comes from the heart” This week’s questions to ponder: In the past year what was the greatest gift you got? And what was the greatest gift you gave? Please join us.
Next Sunday, April 10, is Palm Sunday, which kicks off Holy Week with a passion (so to speak!). We will not be gathering on the patio for an outdoor procession this year, like we have for pre-covid early service. But we will have an indoor mini-procession and palm branches!
Maundy Thursday Service on April 14 is in conjunction with the other Tri-City ELCA Churches at 7 pm at Christ the King. Maudy Thursday commemorates Jesus’ last meal with his disciples and the first communion. No foot washing this year, but a combined choir will be singing!
Good Friday, we will be having our own Tenebrae-style service at Holy Trinity at 7 pm. It’s a solemn service with Taizé music, readings, and candle extinguishing. Tenebrae means “shadows” and the service is conducted in near darkness.
Then it’s Easter! So far, it looks like the Worship Service is at 10 am, Easter Breakfast at 11 am, and Easter Egg Hunt at 11:30 am. If anything changes, I’ll let you know.
