Hi, Everybody! Once again, this email is a day late. The email is so long and chock-full of information that it was returned for insufficient email postage! (No, that’s not a thing – the real reason it’s late is that I have another cold)
This Sunday, March 26, is the 5th Sunday in Lent and Lutheran Loose Change Sunday. Worship, as usual is at 10 am. There will be an Adult Forum with the Transition Teams of Holy Redeemer and Holy Trinity in Holland Hall at 11:15 am. It’s a Q & A session, so hopefully they will have plenty of As for your Qs about what’s happening in the HRLC/HTLC relationship (personally, I ship it*). Sunday School and Confirmation will have a combined session in the Activity Room at 11:15 am this week where they will discuss and prepare for an upcoming Palm Sunday Bake Saleto benefit ELCA Good Gifts.
The last of our joint Midweek Lenten Services will be this Wednesday, March 29 at 6:30 pm. The drama this week is “The Bleeding Woman Healed by Faith” and it is Holy Redeemer’s turn to lead and perform. If you haven’t been to one of these half-hour meditative services, it’s your last chance!
Next Saturday, April 1, we will be having Saturday Clean-Up for Palm Sunday (no foolin’!). All are invited to help prepare for Palm Sunday and Holy Week by decorating with palms, washing windows, and other general cleaning. The fun starts at 9 am and snacks will be provided. There will also be a Rehearsal for Palm Sunday Service at 9:30 am for those who will be helping present “Cry of the Whole Congregation” – the dramatic setting for Palm/Passion Sunday (congregation will not be required to actually cry).
Palm Sunday, April 2, is the beginning of Holy Week. The kids will be putting on the aforementioned Bake Sale. After the service, at 11:15 am, there will be a Worship Helper Training Session. We can use all the help we can get to make services run smoothly. Carmen Blair will show you just how easy it is to be a Liturgist, Reader, or Communion Assistant, and Michael Di Paola will train you if you are Usher-inclined. Help put the “service” in “worship service”!
Palm Sunday also marks the return of our Seder Meal! The Seder Meal will be at 5 pm, and there is a sign-up sheet at the Media Table in the narthex if you’d like to attend. It’s a celebration of Passover with traditional food, ceremony, and games like find the afikomen and recite the Had Gadya in one breath. This year, the suggested donation is $20 for adults and $12 for kids. Lots of food, fun, and fellowship!
Christ the King is hosting a Maundy Thursday Soup Supper on April 6 at 5:30 pm prior to the combined Maundy Thursday Service at 7 pm. Everyone from Holy Trinity and Holy Redeemer is invited to both the supper and the service. You don’t have to bring anything other than yourself, but you can click on the following link to sign up to bring something or help out: Maundy Thursday Soup Supper Sign-up. Christ the King’s address is 1301 Mowry Ave. in Fremont.
April 7 is Good Friday. We will be having a 7 pm Tenebrae -style service with candles and darkness (Tenebrae means shadows). It is traditional to enter and leave in silence to preserve the full solemnity of this evocative service.
Then on April 9, it’s Easter Sunday! The Worship Service will be at 10 am, Easter Breakfast at 11 am, and Easter Egg Hunt at 11:30 am. More details will be coming, as I am currently running out of ink!
