Hi, Everybody:
This Sunday, September 22, is the 18th Sunday after Pentecost and Lutheran Loose Change Sunday. All is normal (or maybe I should say “as usual”): Worship is at 10am, Sunday School and Confirmation at 11:15 am, and Bell Choir at 11:30 am. There is a Hospitality Meeting (as unusual) at 11:15 am in the Activity Room where they will be discussing plans for the upcoming Oktoberfest (October 12, from 4 to 8). It takes a lot of volunteers to make it work, so sign-up for setting up, tearing down, cashier shifts, and food server shifts. You can also sign up to bring hand-held desserts like cookies, brownies and cupcakes (make some extra for yourself – you know, for quality assurance testing!).
Don’t forget about the Jesus and Justice Collective event on Zoom, Wednesday evening, September 25, at 5 pm with author and public theologian Curtis Chang about his new book, The After Party: Toward Better Christian Politics. To register go to https://app.aplos.com/aws/events/faith_justice_conversation_with_curtis_chang). There is also an in-person “watch party” at a home in Danville. To register for that, go to https://app.aplos.com/aws/events/the_flourish_collective_my_test_event_1718227608100. Move your political identity beyond partisanship and learn how to discuss your views with others (presumably without coming to blows).
On Saturday, October 5 at 10 am, Hospitality, along with the Worship Committee, will be hosting a Communion Bread Making Class. They will go over making and baking the dough. Please email Randy at renkuhlmann@gmail.com or sign up in the narthex so they know how many people to plan on. Ingredients will be provided along with a copy of the recipe. Please bring the following items if you have them:
- 4-5 quart bowl (stainless if you have it)
- measuring spoons, TBS, tsp, 1/2 tsp
- fork (okay, we have plenty of these!!)
- rubber scraper
- rolling pin
- bench knife/pastry knife
- 2 cup graduated measuring cup
- 1 oz or 30ml graduated measuring shot glass (I’m assuming for the recipe, not for imbibing)
If you don’t have some or all of these, we will be able to share. We will plan on making bread for Sunday the 6th, so volunteers, rise to the occasion!
There will be a Holy Redeemer Special Congregational Meeting on October 6 at 11:15 am at Holy Trinity. An announcement will also be made at this Sunday’s service. Holy Redeemer members please attend if you can.
October 6 is also Animal Blessing Sunday! Be sure to bring your stuffed toy animals for a blessing during the service, and bring your pets at noon to the patio (a.k.a. the corral) for a blessing of live animals. Tell your animal-loving friends!
Also coming up:
Children’s Sabbath – Oct. 20
Reformation Sunday – Oct. 27
Trunk-or-Treat – Oct. 31
All Saints Sunday – Nov. 3
Ta ta for now (the abbreviation ttfn is for the lazy, imho).
