Hi, Everybody:
First, a message from Pastor Tim:
I want to thank all of you for your cards, gifts and prayers. Your kind words and generosity mean so much. I truly appreciate all of you. Love, Pastor Tim.
This Sunday, January 21, 2023, is the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany and Fill the Food Barrel Sunday. There will be an HRLC Congregational Meeting following the 10 am Worship Service. Consequently, there will be no Bell Choir Rehearsal this Sunday. Sunday School and Confirmation start up again this Sunday at 11:15 am.
The Hospitality Orientation previously scheduled for this week has been moved to next Sunday, January 28, at 11 am following the worship service. If you’re interested in helping with food at church events, come and find out what is involved, where everything is, and how you can help (there are no hazing rituals involved).
Tuesday Bible Study will resume this week on January 23 at 10 am in the Activity Room. Come to learn and fellowship with a fun flock of folks!
Next Sunday, January 28, is RIC Sunday. Reconciling in Christ Sunday is when many churches, including Holy Trinity, celebrate their intentional welcome of the LGBTQIA+ community. Feel free to wear rainbows and bring colorful treats to share after the service (taste the rainbow!).
February 11 is Super Bowl Sunday, and Holy Trinity, along with many other organizations, is joining in the Souper Bowl of Caring. This is a national annual effort to collect food and money for local food pantries. Holy Trinity has participated since 2006 (our 18th year!) and to date we have collected $12,900 and 1,500 food items. We will be collecting non-perishable food items, and some of our youth will be at the doors holding soup pots to gather monetary donations. We encourage you to celebrate by wearing your favorite sports-related shirt, jersey, sweater, etc. Please join us in helping “tackle” hunger! (don’t blame me, I got that joke from their website)
This year, Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday happens to coincide with the Sunday before Mardi Gras. We normally would have a Soup Potluck, but also wanted to honor Holy Redeemer’s tradition of a Mardi Gras celebration. So this year it will be a combined Soup/Mardi Gras Potluck in Holland Hall following the worship service on February 11. Mardi Gras themed food such as gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, etc. are especially encouraged! Hospitality will provide bowls, spoons, beverages, and rolls. Sign up at the Media Table if you plan to attend or bring any type of soup or chili or stew. We’ll also have masks to decorate and beads to wear (just take the beads – please don’t try to obtain them in the traditional fashion!)
Mark your calendars! Holy Trinity’s Annual Meeting is slated for Sunday, February 25, following the worship service. If you have a something for the Annual Report, please get it in to me by February 4 (or risk appearing in the latest installment of the “Annual Meeting” movie franchise: “Meeting ’24: the Wrath of Keith”).
