Hi, Everybody:
This Sunday, May 26, is the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost and Lutheran Loose Change Sunday. Worship is at 10 am. That’s it. No Sunday School, Confirmation, or Bell Choir. We welcome the Tongan Wesleyan Church as they begin Sunday services in the sanctuary this week. It is also Memorial Day Weekend, so be sure to take time to remember those who have given their lives in service to our country.
Calling All Graduates! We would like to honor the graduating among us in an upcoming insert. If you or someone you know is graduating this year, please email me their name, the name and location of the school they are graduating from, and what degree or certificate they earned. Please let me know by June 16. This includes all of those graduating from High School, College, University, Advance Degree, and Certificate Programs. (Let’s limit it to humans – if Fido graduates from obedience school, I don’t want to know about it [unless you named your child Fido. In that case, just where is this obedience school and do they take all ages?])
The Spaghetti Feed is quickly approaching on Sat, June 22, and plenty of opportunities are available to help make sure the event is a success. The traditional basket raffle will happen again this year and all are invited to put together a themed basket that will be raffled off. Homemade crafted items can also be donated as a raffle prize. All items can begin being dropped off after service on Sunday, June 16th and additional drop off times will be announced for that week. Additionally, a sign-up sheet will be available in the narthex for anyone interested in signing up to assist with set up, food service, clean-up, etc. Feel free to contact Erik Holland with any questions.
Father’s Day will be on June 16, and we are having a Father’s Day Barbecue (“Brunch” didn’t sound manly enough) after the worship service. I’m sure there’ll be a sign-up sheet sometime soon on the Media Table so Hospitality knows how many people for whom to plan.
It’s a summer full of music opportunities:
Of course, there is the HTLC Musical Theater Camp. This fun-filled summer camp is five days long, beginning on June 24, and concluding with amazing (we assume) performances of the musical “Esther” on Friday, June 28, and Sunday, June 30. Click here for more information and to register.
Then, everyone gets a chance to influence what hymns we sing (what power!) with Favorite Hymn Sundays, where you can pick out a favorite hymn or Praise Band song or two and we’ll try to fit them all into the services during the summer. Favorite Hymn forms will be available soon for you to fill out and put in Carmen Blair’s Worship Committee box or email her with your suggestions. But remember, with great power comes great responsibility. Please don’t make us sing that “Noah, he built him, he built him an arky arky” song.
Finally, with the Bell Choir and the People Choir going on hiatus for the summer, it would be nice to have some special music during the services. If you are willing to share your musical talents for a solo, duet, or such, please contact Dot Westerhoff, our intrepid Choir Director and Ringleader (I mean Bell Choir Director. Although, if the shoe fits…)
