Hi, Everybody:
This Sunday, October 8, 2023, is the 19th Sunday after Pentecost and Scrip Sunday. The schedule is as usual except that there is an HTLC Council Meeting at noon (not all that unusual – it’s normally on the 2nd Sunday of the month).
There will be an Informal Congregational Meeting at 9 am on October 15 in Holland Hall (formal attire not required). We will be discussing the results of the survey on the possibility of selling a portion of the HTLC property for a community park. Members and non-members alike are welcome to attend and ask questions (about property stuff – not “What is the meaning of life?” [42]).
Oktoberfest is next Saturday, October 14, from 4 pm to 8 pm. There will be all sorts of Bavarian-style food, drink (beer and wine are extra), a bouncy house for the kids, karaoke (beer and wine are extra), and other fun activities. Suggested donations at the door are $20 for adults, $12 for kids. There are sign-ups at the Media Table both for if you’re planning to attend and if you can help out. We need cashiers, a clean-up crew, and people to bring hand-held desserts (like cupcakes, cookies, brownies, etc.). Pick up some flyers to post at your favorite places and to hand out to friends and family! We are planning to give 10% of the proceeds to Culinary Angels.
Trunk or Treat is coming up on Tuesday, October 31. Bring your vehicle to our parking lot and decorate it (mine has real spiderwebs already!), or just take over a parking spot and decorate that. Bring enough treats to hand out from 6 pm to 8 pm. Nachos and hot dogs will be available for a freewill offering, in case you want something marginally more nutritious than candy. It’s a free, fun, safe way for kids to trick-or-treat! Flyers and a sign-up sheet for bringing your vehicle are on the Media Table in the narthex.
Join with your Lutheran community at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 3 for Advent Wreath Making. The event will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church and will feature fellowship, Christmas carols and cookies. You’ll need to bring your own greens and, if you can, some to share. Clippers are helpful, as well as gloves if you want to avoid sappy fingers. If you already have a wreath frame and/or candles, bring them and assemble your wreath along with the rest of the group. If you’re unable to attend but would like to make a wreath you can pick up materials during the week of Nov. 27. An instruction video will be provided. Please call the CTK office to be sure it’s open, 510 797-3724. For questions, call or text Kris Adams, 510 468-8709. Please pre-register by October 25. Click Here to Pre-register!
