HTLC News – August 8, 2025
Hello, Everyone!
This coming Sunday is August 10th, the 9th Sunday of Pentecost, and this is the text for those who remember “Fear Not, Little Flock” from their Sunday School days! It is also Scrip Sunday and Praise Band Sunday. Praise Band is practicing at 8:45 am, Worship begins at 9:30, followed by Youth Group and an Education Planning Meeting, both at 10:45 am
Tomorrow, Saturday, August 9th, at 2:30 pm is the Celebration of Life for Erica Proctor, Janice Schaefer’s mom. The family sends their thanks to everyone who has supported the family through this difficult time.
Well, Fall is coming and there is a lot of planning goin’ on. A joint Rally Day and Ministry Faire should provide a great time. Did I hear Bake Sale? Did I hear prizes? Yup to both! You’ll soon hear about our God’s Work, Our Hands Event as well. The Youth are taking the opportunity to take the lead on part of it, and others are planning another part. There will be God’s Work for everyone to do!
Be sure to mark your calendars for our August 24th Adult Forum in Holland Hall from 10:45 am – 11:45 am. Our guest speaker will be Vivian Wan, CEO of Abode Services, which is an organization committed to finding ways to combat homelessness. The Council is reaching out to folks in our neck of the woods who are doing good work, so that we can invite them to tell us about it, so that we can consider whether it is something we’d like to support. Come and become better informed! Council is planning for more Adult Forums to follow.
And did you know that the ELCA has elected a new Bishop and a new Secretary of the ELCA? Our new Presiding Bishop is Yehiel Curry, the first Black leader to serve in this role in the ELCA. Another first is the Rev. Lucille “CeCe” Mills, who is the first Black woman to hold this important position. Very cool!
Lastly, many thanks to Dean, who preached last week while Pastor was away. Pastor is back, and looks really rested and ready to get back into planning this next busy season!
Personally, I want to thank you all for your prayers for me and mine upon the death of my children’s father. So glad to have a community who reaches out!
Blessings,
Pr. Barbara
