Hi, Everybody:
This Sunday, February 5, 2023, is the 5th Sunday after Epiphany and Name Tag Sunday (nachos next week). Holy Redeemer will be worshiping with us as it is the first Sunday of the month. You’re invited to join the Sunday School and Confirmation kids as they prepare kits with snacks and personal items for the annual Winter Relief Project. Some of these items were donated by you as the Cause of the Month in December. Come to Holland Hall after worship and fellowship and help them out! There is a Church Council Meeting at noon. If you’d like to attend, please contact Marta Wicke (and you’ll still have time to help the kids!). We thank Paula Seo for supplying music while Myrna recovers from her surgery.
The Celebration of Life for Cheryl Hall will be held at Holy Trinity on Saturday, February 18, at 11 am with a reception following. You are encouraged to wear purple. (her favorite color)
Your 2022 Giving Statements are ready to pick up at the Media Table. They are currently in alphabetical order. It would be nice if they stayed that way! Let Terri know if you need it by email and let me know if you need it by snail mail (USPS).
Next Sunday is the Souper Bowl of Caring. This is a national annual effort to collect food and money for local food pantries. We will be collecting non-perishable food items, and people will be at the doors holding soup pots to gather monetary donations. After worship service, we will have a Soup Potluck in Holland Hall. Hospitality will be providing beverages, bowls, and rolls (and the previously mentioned nachos). There is a sign-up sheet at the Media Table for if you plan to attend and if you are bringing a soup-like substance. (Eating Tip: take small portions, otherwise you won’t be hungry enough try them all after you get the first down! [obligatory football joke]).
Since COVID began, we’ve had several new people who have begun attending our services. These people, of course, are already a part of our Holy Trinity family, but we’d like to welcome them as new full members of Holy Trinity with all the benefits that come with membership (being able to vote at Annual Meetings, having a say in the future of Holy Trinity, being able to be a Council Member, etc.) During the service next Sunday, we will acknowledge those who are joining and those who have recently joined. Be there to give them a big welcome! (at least wait until after the Soup Potluck to try to snag them for a committee)
February 19, Transfiguration Sunday, Holy Trinity will temporarily shut its doors and head on over to worship with Holy Redeemer at their Newark campus (35660 Cedar Blvd. Newark, CA 94560) at 10 am. This will be their last Sunday there for a while as they will be worshiping with us at least through Lent as they discern their future as a church. Plan to stay for their Mardi Gras celebration – jazz music and food! If you show up at Holy Trinity that day, all you’ll wind up with is the shortest sermon on record.
Other upcoming stuff: Ash Wednesday Service at 7 pm on February 22, Annual Congregational Meeting on February 26 following the worship service, and Midweek Lenten Services at 6:30 pm on Wednesdays throughout Lent.
