HTLC News Email – July 12, 2024

Hi, Everybody:

This Sunday, July 14, is the 8th Sunday after Pentecost and Scrip Sunday.  Worship is at 10 am and, even though it’s the second Sunday of the month, the HTLCCouncil is not meeting until next week at 11:30 am (don’t look so crestfallen!).   I know it looks like not much is happening, but don’t miss this Sunday!  You won’t believe the goings-on at Herod Antipas’ birthday party!! (verses 27 and 28 will shock you!!!).

Check Those Doors!  Recently, we’ve had several doors discovered unlocked or not shut all the way at the church. Please, everybody, be sure that before leaving the Holy Trinity campus you walk around each building and try all the doors to make sure they are both shut and locked.  Some stick a little, so pull really hard to be sure.  Don’t be afraid to slam them if necessary (despite what your mother told you).  There are many people and groups who use our facility, and sometimes things get overlooked.  So please, even if you are there alone and only used one door in one building, take the extra minute or two to check them all anyway.  It’s a small bit of stewardship you can provide to help keep our church secure.  Thanks.

Here’s an update from Christ the King about how the Safe Parking Program is going.  Holy Trinity’s Rene and Neal Bierbaum volunteer to help, and I bet they’d love to see more of us involved – don’t let those CTK people show us up! (I know, it’s not a competition. [yet])

Christ the King has just finished hosting Safe Parking for the seventh time, providing some people with a safer place to spend the night.  Typical overnight participant numbers for June were 10 to 12, an increase from January 2024.  The cumulative number of people served over the month was 14 and the maximum over a single night was 13, five times.  We saw about twice the number of people in the mornings compared to the evenings.
This year the City of Fremont has focused on adding people from their waitlist while removing those who were not actively using the program.  Their efforts are reflected in the increased numbers of participants we saw this month.
A highlight was Summer Sandwich Night on Wednesday, June 12, hosted by the CTK Stewardship Committee.  Many people commented on the excellent sandwiches from Erik’s Deli.  Seventeen people enjoyed the meal including six participants, with more participants enjoying the leftovers the next couple days.
Gas cards were again given to participants thanks to your generous donations.  There were sufficient funds that we also provided them with Starbucks cards, an appreciated treat.  Thank you.
The City of Fremont has added a new host site – St. James’ Episcopal Church on Thornton Avenue.  Christ the King welcomed two representatives the evening of June 27 so they could see how the program operates at CTK.  The churches each do things a little differently.
If you have questions about the program, please contact Alan, Jim or Bunny.
We are thankful for everyone involved and we’re always happy to add new volunteers.
