Hi, Everybody, sorry for the delay:
This Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday, when Jesus goes up a mountain, turns all bright and shiny, has a confab with Moses and Elijah, and God’s voice is heard saying, “That’s my boy! Listen up!” (CSV – colloquial standard version). It’s also Nacho Name Tag Sunday. The next installment of the “Test of Faith” Adult Forum is postponed until next Sunday – Dean is not feeling well. (we’ll trust in both science and faith to make him better). Everything else is as usual.
This coming Wednesday, March 5, is Ash Wednesday. It’s first day of the 40 days of Lent – a solemn day to remember we are dust, ask for forgiveness, and renew our dedication to God. We will have a Worship service at 7 pm which will include an opportunity, if you so desire, to have Pastor Tim smudge a cross on your forehead with ashes from a previous year’s Palm Sunday fronds (“Ashes?! Why, when I was your age it was called ‘Sharpie Wednesday,’ and that cross lasted all through Lent! And we liked it!”). Anyway, be sure to eat up all your Girl Scout cookies on Tuesday, if that’s what you’re giving up for Lent.
After last Sunday’s Annual Meeting, we have a new Council President, Vice President, and, well, practically a whole new Council! Your 2025 Church Council is as follows:
Executive Committee:
- President: Carmen Blair
- Vice President: Pamela Metcalf
- Recording Secretary: Marta Wicke
- Financial Secretary: Erik Holland
- Treasurer: Terri MacFarlane
Council Members:
- Claudette Haskins
- Linda Headrick
- Gina Herman
- Bryan MacFarlane,
- Kevin Mesa
- Laurence Miedema
- Jay Schaefer
- Kellie Smith
Committee liaisons are still to be decided. Congratulations to those elected, and thank you for your willingness to serve! If you were unable (or unwilling) to attend the Annual Meeting, there are still copies of the Annual Report available on the Media Table.
Next Sunday, March 9, there will be a Council Meeting at 12:30 pm. All are welcome to attend (and enjoy that new council smell!). It’s also the day we return to Daylight Saving’s Time, so remember to set your clocks ahead one hour (including your circadian clock).
We will be holding brief, half-hour meditative Midweek Lenten Services on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm March 12 through April 9. They will feature calming music from Haugen’s Holden Evening Prayer setting and short thought-provoking skits written by Kathleen Keating called Martin’s (& Katie’s) Table. (No, they will not be serving “Cinnamon Boldly” rolls.)
Saturday, March 15, at 7:30 pm, Mission Peak Chamber Singers return to Christ the King with a Cabaret concert. Their two choirs will be joined by smaller acts who will bring you an entertaining evening of show tunes, Disney favorites, and oldie-but-goodie singalongs (these “oldie-but-goodies” had better be from before 1960. I refuse to believe anything after that is an oldie – including me!). Tickets are donation-only at the door. Doors open at 7:00 pm. There is also a Gala at 6:00 pm. For more information and Gala tickets go to chambersingers.org.
