This Sunday, May 31, is Pentecost! Considered the birthday of the church by some, it celebrates when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in the form of wind, tongues of flame, and the ability to speak in different languages – weird stuff! It’s one of only two Sundays of the year when we have red paraments and Pastor Tim gets to wear his red chasuble (no, I’m not typing in tongues – those are churchy words for decorative altar area cloths and what is essentially a poncho for pastors). It’s traditional to wear red, so while you’re watching the worship service, I’m sure you’ll all be wearing your red pajamas, red bathrobes, or those red long johns with the rear flap they have in the cartoons.
Vacation Bible School is on! Yes, even with COVID-19, VBS keeps chugging along with “Rocky Railway.” It will take place online through Zoom on June 22-26, 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm (or so). There’ll be all the stuff you love about VBS: Bible stories, buddies, songs and crafts – just make sure they know you’re coming so they can make up a materials packet for you to pick up before the train leaves! I’ve already gotten a few names for Graduates whom we’ll be honoring in a couple of weeks. Be sure to email me the following information for your graduates if you haven’t already so we can let them know how proud we are of them!

- Name of the school and location (i.e. “University of California, Berkeley” [GO BEARS! – sorry, that an automatic reaction from my Cal Band days.])
- Major (if applicable)
- Degree or certificate earned (if applicable)
One more thing which has fallen by the wayside during these covidays are the printed calendars I usually put on the Media Table. You can still access the calendar on our website under “Events” (I can tell you what’s on it now – nothing, nothing, nothing, Zoom Council Meeting, nothing, nothing, Zoom VBS, nothing…). However, the birthdays and anniversaries of members that are printed on the backs of the calendars have been missed. So each month starting today I’ll be listing them at the end of the email blast so you can call them and say “Happy Birthday – who are you again?” Don’t worry, I won’t be revealing your ages! (for a fee)
