Hi, Everybody:
Tomorrow, Saturday May 6, there will be a White Sunday Rehearsal at 10 am in the sanctuary for all the kids who are preparing for…
This Sunday’s White Sunday service. White Sunday is a Tongan tradition on the first Sunday in May, when they honor children by having them dress in white (hence the name) and sing, dance, and read during the service (I hope nobody ever tries to honor me by making me get up in front of people and dance!). After the service, there will be a White Sunday Potluck to celebrate! (yes, there will be nachos as well, since it’s Nacho Name Tag Sunday). No Sunday School or Confirmation this Sunday, but there will be a Zoom Coffee Chat at 9:15 before the service. Zoom link will be in a separate email tomorrowish.
But wait, that’s not all you get this Sunday, you also get meetings! (Was that a cheer I heard? No?) There will be a short Holy Redeemer Congregational Meeting directly after the service – just long enough to vote to postpone the meeting to May 21 at noon (then they can stampede to the potluck, hoping there’s some left). There’s also a Holy Trinity Council Meeting at noon (conveniently post-potluck).
The following Sunday, May 14, is Mother’s Day. We’ll be having a Mother’s Day Luncheon following the worship service (knowing what the weather’s been like, it could be either outside or inside!). Please sign up on the clipboard in the narthex if you plan to attend. That way, Hospitality can better estimate how much to prepare. There will be no Sunday School or Confirmation that Sunday, either.
Then we come to Sunday, May 21. This will be the last day of Sunday School until the fall. You also get more meetings! (Yaaaaay!) The Holy Redeemer Congregational Meeting, which was postponed in paragraph three, will take place at 12:15 pm in the sanctuary. A Spaghetti Feed Planning Meeting will be taking place at 11:15 am following service. Due to the HRLC congregational meeting at noon, the first part of this meeting will be used to answer questions and get new members/friends familiarized with how they can support the event by donating and volunteering. The more “seasoned” Spaghetti Feed volunteers are asked to stay on hand for the second half of the meeting when a bit more of the detailed planning will take place. As a reminder, the Spaghetti Feed is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, June 24th.
May 21 is also the date of the next Jesus and Justice Event “Far East, Deep South.” It’s a film about a Chinese American family’s search for their roots in the Mississippi Delta. It’s from 2 pm to 4:45 pm at South Bay Community Church, 47385 Warm Springs Blvd., Fremont. To learn more and register, click here or go to jesusandjusticecollective.org.
HTLC Day at the A’s returns! On Sunday, July 2, baseball fans are invited to join other Holy Trinity members at the A’s game as they play the White Sox at 1 pm. Rumor is there is a jersey giveaway for groups, and a sunglasses giveaway! Tickets are $25 each and will be due as soon as we purchase group tickets. If you’re interested, please email Kathy Miedema at skoop32@yahoo.com to reserve your ticket(s). PLEASE LET US KNOW BY MAY 15. (shouting capitals courtesy of Kathy, not me)
Don’t forget, our first Musical Theater Camp will take place June 19 – 23, with performances of “Oh, Jonah” on the 23rd at 6:30 pm, and during the worship service on the 25th. Click here to find out more and register. Your kids will have a whale of a ti… (I’m sorry, I just can’t bring myself to say it.)
