Hi, Everybody:
This Sunday, October 9, 2022, is the 18th Sunday after Pentecost, Scrip Sunday, and Animal Blessing Sunday. There will be a Blessing of the Toy Animals during Children’s Time at the 10 am worship service, so be sure to bring along your plush companions. Then, join us on the patio at 11:15 am with your real pets for a Blessing of the Live Animals – a short ceremony and blessing for those animal companions who give us so much. Come say goodbye to Jeanine, our resident chicken, as we bless her and send her on her way to a new home where she’ll be safe, cared for, and among her own kind (I hope they’re Lutherhens like she is, but they might be Eggpiscopalian). There is a Church Council Meeting at noon.
Tomorrow is Oktoberfest! Don those lederhosen and dirndls and have a Bavarian blast! The fun starts at 4 pm with dinner starting at about 4:45 pm, and everything will wind up at about 8 pm. There’ll be Bavarian-inspired food, karaoke, a pretzel & pie eating contest, a bouncy house for the kids, and plenty of fellowship. Das ist gut, ja? “Suggested donations” are $15 for Adults, $10 for kids and seniors, $45 for a family of four. Beer, wine, and soft drinks are extra. We’re also asking that those who have the talent and means please bring some sort of hand-held dessert like cookies, bars, and cupcakes. A portion of the proceeds will go to ELCA Hurricane Relief for Ian.
Trunk or Treat is returning this year on Monday, October 31! Decorate your vehicle or just take over a parking spot and decorate it, and bring enough treats to hand out from 6 pm to 8 pm. Holy Trinity kids and neighborhood kids go from car to car collecting treats. It’s a free, fun, safe way to trick-or-treat! There will also be hot dogs and nachos for a free-will offering. If you are decorating, please arrive early so that you can be ready in time for the onslaught of urchins. A sign-up sheet to decorate your car/space will be coming soon. See you there!
We’ve recently had some new audio-visual equipment installed and we are having some growing pains. Please be patient, and let us know if there are problems you notice in the livestream or online recordings, or if you are having trouble hearing something in-person. Contact Arnold Kuhlmann if you have noticed anything so that he knows about it and can fix it. Thanks for your help, everyone!
Lots of special Sundays are coming up. Next week, October 16, is Children’s Sabbath, when we celebrate and promise to help the children in our midst. October 23 is Confirmation Sunday for our confirmands Cassie Di Paola and Wesley Smith. October 30 is Reformation Sunday (wear red), and November 6 is All Saints Sunday. You get one plain old Sunday (phew!), and then it’s back to special Sundays with Christ the King/Thankoffering Sunday (Nov. 20) and the 1st Sunday of Advent (Nov. 27). In fact, I would plan to not miss any Sundays for the rest of the year! (isn’t that one of those 10 Commandments I keep hearing about?)
Keep it holy!
