News Email for April 14, 2023

Hi, Everybody:

This Sunday, April 16, is the 2nd Sunday of Easter (the Easter season lasts for seven Sundays).  It’s also Fill the Food Barrel Sunday.  Worship is at 10 am and Sunday School/Confirmation Classes are at 11:15 am.  There is a Holy Trinity Council Meeting at 12 pm (see Marta for Zoom details), and a Holy Redeemer Council Meeting at 4 pm, both in the Activity Room (be there at 3 pm for the ceremonial “Changing of the Councils”).

This Sunday is also Pastor Tim’s last Sunday before he goes on sabbatical, and we will have a commissioning for him during the service.  You’ll also get to hear the message he didn’t deliver on Easter due to illness.  PT is much better and was even cleaning out his office this week.  (Debbie was there to help and also to document this historic occasion with photographic evidence.)  Pastor Tim will be back at the end of summer – no doubt rejuvenated and full of crazy-scary-newfangled ideas (and a tan).  We will certainly miss him (who will I make snarky remarks about now?).  Pastor Barbara will be retiring on July 16.  Until then, we will be blessed to have her fulfilling pastoral duties for our HTLC/HRLC congregations.  Then, it will be mystery supply pastor(s) until Pastor Tim comes back.

Tuesday Bible Study is starting up again this week at 10 am in the Activity Room with Pastor Barbara taking the reins.  It’s a fun group, so if you’ve got the opportunity, you should check it out!

Thank you to all the volunteers who were involved in making Holy Week so fantastic last week!  From Palm Sunday’s Passion Play, through the Seder Meal, Maundy Thursday Service at CTK, Good Friday’s Tenebrae Service, and Easter Sunday’s service, breakfast, and egg hunt.  Special thanks to Hospitality (including chef Bryan MacFarlane), the youth, musicians, worship helpers, AV people, all the extra readers, those who donated flowers for the Easter Garden, and especially Carmen Blair who worked behind the scenes to pull so much of it together.

Missed any of the Holy Week services?  The video of the combined CTK/HTLC/HRLC Maundy Thursday service at CTK is available on CTK’s YouTube channel here:  https://www.youtube.com/@ctkfremont/videos.  The other services can be found on Holy Trinity’s YouTube channel here:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuf89NHFKjZQiJ9cwSnolpg (in case you just have to replay Terri startling an entire congregation with her drum on Palm Sunday).

The next Jesus and Justice Collective event will be “Far East, Deep South.”  It’s a film about Baldwin Chiu and his Chinese American family’s search for their roots in the Mississippi Delta.  They discover surprising family revelations and uncover the racially complex history of Chinese Immigrants and African Americans in the segregated South.  It’s on May 21, 2 pm to 4:45 pm, at South Bay Community Church, 47385 Warm Springs Blvd., Fremont.  You can find out more and register by clicking here.  (I’ll remind you closer to the event.  I know don’t think that far ahead!)
