HTLC/HRLC News Email, May 10, 2024

Hi, Everybody:

First, the good news:  our website is working again!  The bad news:  it happened after the insert was printed, and since we’ve been doing the insert every other week, I’m going to be wrong about it for two whole weeks!  But, yay! the website is working!

This Sunday, May12, is Ascension SundayScrip Sunday, and Mother’s Day!  So, grab your Mom (or the nearest mom-ish person) and bring them to the Moher’s Day Brunch after the worship service.  It’s going to be a fiesta of food with a Mexican theme.  There’s no Sunday School, Confirmation, or Bell Choir, so you can spend the time honoring Mom (bring a palm leaf for fanning, peel some grapes, and be prepared to genuflect).

There may be a Bell Choir rehearsal at 6 pm on Wednesday – I’m sure Ringmaster Dot will let those involved know.

Thank you to all who participated in White Sunday on May 5th. Special thanks to the youth who worked so hard and demonstrated their talents to us. Thank you, too, to the Tongan Wesleyan Church for sharing their tradition with us and for hosting the potluck after the service.

Saturday, May 18, at 7:30pm, Mission Peak Chamber Singers return to Christ the King Lutheran Church.  They will sing Elaine Hagenberg’s choral masterpiece“Illuminare”, and two songs from the Amazigh culture with Moroccan guest artist, Fattah Abbou. Ticket Prices are $15 to $45.  For more information, please see their website:chambersingers.org.  Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door.  If you have any questions please contact Alan at aclaassen@aol.com or 510-599-4886.

Next Sunday, May 19, is just chock full of wonderful stuff.  First of all, it’s the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, and they spoke in different languages. It’s traditional to wear red, and there may be a rushes of wind and tongues of flame involved.  After the worship service, there will be a Youth Bake Sale to benefit ELCA Good Gifts (baked goods do not contain actual youth).  There also will be a Spaghetti Feed Meeting at about 11:15, and an HTLC Council Meeting at noon.  Something for everyone!

Our Audio-Visual Team needs more people to learn and run the sound, cameras, and media computer (especially since that cool guy left – what was his name?).  The more people who have these skills, the better.  AV has become such an important and integral part of our services, especially for those who attend online.  Please talk to Rene and Neal Bierbaum, Johnson Solomon, or Arnold Kuhlmann to set up a time for them to show you the ropes.  Or email me if you’re interested, and I’ll pass it along.

– Keith
your cool Parish Life Coordinator (i.e. Church Secretary)
