HTLC/HRLC News Email, May 3, 2024

Hi, Everybody:

Tomorrow, Saturday the 4th, from 9 am to 11 am there is a White Sunday Rehearsal for those involved in the service on Sunday.

This Sunday, May 5, is the 6th Sunday of Easter and White Sunday.  White Sunday is a tradition in the Tongan Wesleyan Church of celebrating children on the first Sunday in May by having them participate in the worship service, and they’re sharing the celebration with us and our kids.  This service will not be streamed, since it is children-led.  The Tongans are hosting a White Sunday Potluck after the service in Holland Hall, and we’re all invited!  Feel free to bring a side dish or dessert!  Because of the potluck, there will not be Sunday School, Confirmation, or Bell Choir this Sunday.

But there is Holy Redeemer’sAnnual Congregational Meeting as constitutionally required this Sunday after worship.  They will call the meeting to order and then vote to continue it at a later date.  Their desire is to not interfere with the White Sunday celebration.  All HRLC members desiring to attend should gather in the Sanctuary immediately after worship service.  (This meeting will be short, so Holy Trinity people, you will not have much time to get all the good stuff at the potluck before Holy Redeemer gets there).

If you like having physical Scrip Gift Cards that you can actually touch (and wrap, and give to your Mom), Pamela Metcalf says if you submit orders to her by Monday May 6 at noon, She’ll have them back the following Sunday, May 12, which, coincidently, is Mother’s Day!  You could give it to her at the Mother’s Day Brunch after the service.  Yes, Hospitality is providing delicious Mexican-themed food to celebrate all Moms and Mothering types.  See?  The church is helping you by providing gift ideas and a brunch!  (I’m sure a gift you didn’t have to go out to buy and a meal you didn’t have to cook will make up for all the years of grief you gave her.)

On Tuesday, May 7, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Christ the King will have a fundraiser for the CTK Backpack Project at the Panera at 2650 Mowry Ave., Fremont 94538.  They will receive 25% of the value of the food orders (if they meet $150 minimum in orders) which will be used to purchase backpacks and school supplies for tri-city children in need.  If you order online at www.panerabread.com or the Panera App, you must enter code FUND4U at checkout so that CTK will get the funds.  Or you can Show this flyer or a digital version to the cashier when ordering at the café to ensure that CTK gets a portion of the proceeds. Please share this information with friends and neighbors and enjoy dinner at Panera!  If you have any questions, contact Bonnie at immeker@comcast.net or (510) 657-0910.

May 19 has at least two exciting things happening:  it’s Pentecost Sunday (wear red!) and the kids are having a Bake Sale after church to raise money to provide needed supplies or livestock through ELCA Good Gifts.  If they use enough red food coloring in their treats, we’ll all have tongues of flame!

Last week I was in error for the times of our Musical Theater Camp.  It’s June 24 – 28, 10 am to 3 pm, and performances of the musical Esther are on June 28 at 6:30 pm, and June30 at 10 am. I’ve attached the latest flyer.  Esther going to be any more changes?
