HTLC/HRLC News Email, September 30, 2023

Hi, Everybody.  I’ve run out of time this week and there’s lots to cover, so there are no attempts at humor today (“attempts” being the operative word).

This Sunday, October 1, 2023 is the 18th Sunday after PentecostNacho Name Tag Sunday, and Animal Blessing Sunday.  Bring your toy animals to the 10 am Worship Service for a Blessing of Stuffed Animals during Children’s Time.  Sunday School and Confirmation are at 11:15.Then, at noon on the patio, there will be a Blessing of Live Animals to which you can bring your pets.  The first Bell Choir Rehearsal will be at 11:30 am in the sanctuary.

Bertha VanDusen Celebration of Life
A Celebration of Life service in honor of Bertha VanDusen will be held at 10 am on Friday, October 20, followed by a reception in Holland Hall. All are welcome to attend.

HTLC Council Meeting Next Week
Holy Trinity’s Council will meet on October 8 at noon. Anyone may attend.

Informal Congregational Meeting
There will be a meeting at 9 am on October 15 in Holland Hall to discuss the results of the survey on the possibility of selling a portion of the HTLC property for a community park. Members and non-members alike are welcome to attend and ask questions.

Oktoberfest
Save the date! Oktoberfest will be on Saturday, October 14, from 4 pm to 8 pm. There will be all sorts of Bavarian-style  food, drink (beer and wine are extra), a bouncy house for the kids, karaoke, and other fun activities. Suggested donations at the door are $20 for adults, $12 for kids. There are sign-ups at the Media Table both for if you’re planning to attend and if you can help out. We need cashiers, a clean-up crew, and people to bring hand-held desserts (like cupcakes, cookies, brownies, etc.). Pick up some flyers to post at your favorite places and to hand out to friends and family! We are planning to give 10% of the proceeds to Culinary Angels – a group that provides food and information for those undergoing cancer treatment. It’s going to be wunderbar!

Associate Membership
We have had a few people asking about being associate members of Holy Trinity. Here is what the HTLC constitution says:
“Associate members are persons holding membership in other Christian congregations who wish to retain such membership but desire to participate in the life and mission of this congregation, or persons who wish to retain a relationship with this congregation while being members of other congregations. They have all the privileges and duties of membership except voting rights and eligibility for elected offices or membership on the Congregation Council of this congregation.”
If you are considering associate membership, please talk to Pastor Tim.

New Bible Study on the Psalms
“Entering the Psalms” will be a six-week Bible study held on Sundays (time TBD) that invites you to consider how a collection of poetic praises and laments dating from 1400 BC to 500 BC relate to your own life and experiences.
It will be led by Collette Koski who is an ELCA trained catechumenate leader with over 25 years of experience with Bible Study Fellowship (visit bsfinternational.org for more information)
Sign up on the clipboard on the Media Table with your time preferences so Collette can determine the best time.

Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat is coming up on Tuesday, October 31. Bring your vehicle to our parking lot and decorate it, or just take over a parking spot and decorate that. Bring enough treats to hand out from 6 pm to 8 pm. It’s a free, fun, safe way for kids to trick-or-treat! A sign-up sheet and flyers are on the Media Table in the narthex.

Holiday Boutique
This is the third year that Beau’s Bridge Club will be holding their Holiday Boutique at Holy Trinity. It’s coming up on Saturday, November 11, from 9 am to 3 pm. Holy Trinity will have a couple of tables for handmade items to sell for the benefit of HTLC, so all you crafters get crafting!
