HTLC News Email, April 30, 2021

Hi, Everybody:

This Sunday, May 2, is the 5th Sunday of Easter.  It’s a pretty normal Sunday with a pre-recorded online Worship Service and all the Zoom activities zooming at their usual Zoom times.

Our Ministry in Context Student Tori Valcarcel is planning an Adult Education Forum for Holy Trinity and Christ the King (and friends!).  It’s called “Church, Community, Self: Health & Wholeness in Times Like These”.  Here is the information:

Did you know that May is National Mental Health Awareness Month in the US? To help mark this month, please consider joining us via the CTK Zoom for a time of reflection, restoration, and recentering with Tori, the Ministry in Context student from PLTS.
Over three sessions, we will explore and share how our individual, church, and communal identities have been shaped by the past year, and make space to imagine what the coming year holds. Tori will bring her knowledge and background as a seminarian, a community health practitioner, and mental health advocate. You are invited to bring yourself, your knowledge and experiences, and a willingness to go where the Spirit leads!
When: Thursday May 6th, 13th, 20th from 6:30-8PMWhere: Using the CTK Zoom link- go to https://ctkfremont.squarespace.com/worship and click “JOIN US ON ZOOM”
Please let us know if you plan on coming by RSVP’ing to either the HTLC office or directly to Tori at vvalcarcel@ses.plts.edu!
When day comes we step out of the shade,
aflame and unafraid
The new dawn blooms as we free it
For there is always light,
if only we’re brave enough to see it
If only we’re brave enough to be it

– “The Hill We Climb”, Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate

And here is our own Zoey Roper with plans to lift the spirits of kids in need with an Abode Ice Cream Social:

I will be helping create an ice cream social for 30 kids who live in Abode’s apartment complex. I really need donations to help achieve the goal of getting enough ice cream and ice cream related toys! If people donate over $20, you can get a digital pet portrait, and if you donate over $30, you can get a pet portrait or you can receive a digital portrait of you/you and your family. Here’s an example! Please mark donations to Terri as Abode Ice Cream Social. The event is as Wednesday, May 19! Any extra funds will go to LOV Newark’s food pantry.  Please email ropersquad@gmail.com with any questions. Thank you!

Our Cause of the Month for May (yes, tomorrow it’s May!) is Operation Care and Comfort.  Mark any contributions accordingly.  Here is some information from their website:

Americans support our Troops serving in times of war in many ways: Writing letters, mailing care packages, welcome home events, or by showing support for a deployed service member or Veteran’s family. Americans open up their hearts, homes, and wallets to show that they support those who serve our country. The unique programs of Operation: Care and Comfort (OCC) (an all volunteer 501(c)(3) organization) carries on this tradition allowing caring Americans to donate their time, talent, and treasure to honor those currently serving our country and those who have served.

So nice of everyone else to write today’s news email for me!  And yet, somehow it managed to turn out even longer without my usual attempts at humor.  Guess I’d better keep the jokes up in order to save you time in the future (I can rationalize anything!).

– Keith, your friendly Parish Life Coordinator (i.e. Church Secretary)
