HTLC News Email, December 2, 2022

Hi, Everybody:

This Sunday, December 4, is the 2nd Sunday of Advent and so much is happening!  Let’s go chronologically, shall we?  First, there is our monthly Zoom Coffee Chat at 9:15 (details in Sunday morning’s email).  Then put on a name tag for the Worship Service at 10 am since the Holy Redeemer congregation will be here with bells on (literally – their handbell choir is performing during the Advent candle lighting!).  Pastor Barbara is filling in for Pastor Tim while he is gone to a wedding.  After service, grab some nachos and schmooze – it’s Nacho Name Tag Sunday!  At 11:20, the kids are getting their costumes for the dress rehearsal of the Christmas Pageant at 11:45 am in the Sanctuary.

Did you get your Reverse Advent Calendar last Sunday?  If not, I’ve attached it to this email so you can download and print it in all its glorious color (mostly red and green).  Each day of Advent, instead of opening a door on a calendar and receiving something (often empty carbs), with this calendar you get to give something to someone in need.  There are items on the calendar for both our Food Barrel and the kids’ Helping Hands Winter Relief Project.  Thanks for your participation!

The students of our organist Myrna Emata Diaz will be having a Piano Recital on Saturday, December 10, at 4 pm (that’s only a week from tomorrow!  Time for all you students to panic!).  All are invited to attend, and there will be a reception following the recital.

Next Sunday, December 11, the kids from both Holy Trinity and Holy Redeemer will be presenting their Christmas Pageant here at HTLC in place of the message during the 10 am worship service.  It’s a Kathleen Keating original entitled “A Bright Star: a Heavenly Perspective,” and the kids have been working hard on it.  It’s bound to be far more entertaining than a sermon, so don’t miss it!

Christmas Eve will be here before you know it, and we will be having two services:  one at 4 pm and one at 8 pm for your Christmas Eve worshiping convenience.  The services will be similar.  Both services will have the traditional singing of “Silent Night” by candlelight, and the choir will be singing at the 8 pm service.

Christmas Day is on a Sunday this year, and we will be having a 10 am Service of Poems and Carols.  Following the service there will be a Christmas Brunch in Holland Hall for all to enjoy!  (How did they know that food was at the top of my Christmas wish list?)
