Hi, Everybody:
This Sunday, February 20, is the 7th Sunday after Epiphany and Fill the Food Barrel Sunday. The schedule is as usual with in-person 10 am Worship Service, and Zoom Sunday School, Coffee Chat, and Communion at their usual times. Although California’s mask requirement has expired except for certain places (click here for more info), please continue to wear masks at church until the Church Council determines that it’s safe for us. Those with underlying health conditions (like me) are still vulnerable (and no, I’m not talking the fat that’s underlying my skin!).
Also this Sunday is the Jesus and Justice Collective’s event from 2-3:30 pm via Zoom with Pastor and Author Dominique DuBois Gilliard. He is the Director of Racial Righteousness and Reconciliation for the Evangelical Covenant Church and author of the book Subversive Witness: Scripture’s Call to Leverage Privilege (didn’t I see a courtroom thriller called “Subversive Witness”?). Please view the FLYER for more information and to register (includes a link to order his book if you’d like). Please write your church affiliation under “Organization.” Invite friends and family to join this frank and timely conversation to be encouraged, challenged, and moved toward action!
This Sunday is the last day to get us your top three core values. Email them to Pastor Tim or me, or fill out a form at church and put it in one of our boxes or the offering tray. It’s for the Sierra Pacific Synod’s Acts for Vitality program in which our church is participating. (I’m not sure my core is valuable – what with that underlying fat condition)
We have a committee tasked with figuring out a policy for overnight church parking. If you’d like to be on it (the committee, not the parking lot), or if you have an opinion, please contact Roy Heaivilin.
So much is happening next Sunday, February 27! It’s Transfiguration Sunday, Bold Women’s Sunday, and the Annual Meeting is at noon via Zoom (details later). Please attend the Annual Meeting – if you don’t attend, you’re not allowed to complain about church for the rest of the year (and really, complaining is my main source of entertainment). If you’re waiting for the last minute to send me a report, I’m considering this Sunday the last minute. It’s also Lutheran Loose Change Sunday. 2 million pennies ought to get us through the next month (you’ll need 20,000 penny roll sleeves)
Lent is looming! We will have an Ash Wednesday Service at 7 pm on March 2. Then we will have Midweek Lenten Services on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm here at HTLC throughout Lent, in cooperation with Christ the King and Holy Redeemer. Adjust your calendars accordingly.
